This U-Haul had some new glass installed wrongly, with the address showing to the indside, rather than the street, and did not make the installer re-do it. It has been like this for at least 20 years! Right in this area, on the east side of Metcalf Ave, at 77th, across from the venerable U-Haul dealer at 7740, was a dear, old A-frame IHOP restaurant! It probably went up in the late sixties, and was already gone by the time I hit town in 1981--Why, I don't know. Obviously, many A-frames lasted beyond 1980, and are still standing today. I have only known that there ever was an IHOP here for about the last 3 years, of the 29 I've lived here.

This is adjacent to a motel, in the Midtown. It has not been an active IHOP for many years, at least 15. Maybe 20. The national office for the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) is shown, across Linwood St. In fact, over the American flag, you can see the top 1/3 of the letters "VFW." I think the VFW Building is a really old building with a 1980's "shell" built around it, to update it. The IHOP is in poor shape, but does still have the diamond pattern window dividers, from the "Swiss Chalet" charm decorating style used in the old IHOPS. That is why I purposely showed the window dividers in the shot.
