Why do we have the
Families of the Portland Police?

"If it's predictable, it is preventable."

We are here to try and prevent, or at least reduce, the life changing responses to police work. These reactions are more frequent and have a tendency to be more extreme in law enforcement verses a different profession. Not many other career choices have survival at the top of their list. So much attention is placed on survival, as it should be, but we are here to help the families see the importance of emotional survival. An officer wears two hats, one as an officer and one as a citizen. Over time, it becomes harder to separate the two, unless the family is involved and is aware in order to remain supportive and functional.

After reading Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement, by Dr. Kevin M. Gilmartin, I realized that preventative maintenance and support from the family will help make the life for a LEO a little smoother. We started as a small social network and have since grown into a group of individuals reaching out to those whose family members serve the community as an officer. We connect, build and reach out to the Portland Police and their families.”

–Holly Cole, Wife of PPB Officer

"We wouldn't have made it through out loss without our FPP and PPB family!"

-Teresa Mendenhall, Wife of deceased Sgt

"As a stay at home mom in a new area, I was really struggling with losing my social ties. I decided to get involved with FPP and have truly enjoyed all of the social gatherings, especially the play dates. FPP has opened my world to some fantastic people. It has enabled me to receive crisis training, and given me an avenue to reach out to others in the law enforcement community. Through FPP our family has gained invaluable friendships for which I am so grateful!"

-Rachel Burns, Wife of PPB Officer

"FPP has become part of my family. Has changed my life."

-Pam McCollister, Officer's wife
