Family Materials -- A Blood and Metal side story. As I work on my latest major project, the revision of my (in)famous fanfiction, Blood and Metal, I was seeking places to gather interest in the story as I'm writing it. I especially was looking around some Sonic-themed fan groups that would consider what a Sonic-like world (especially a Sonic SatAM world) would be like without all the Sega-themed materials included. It was this kind of a vision, in this case, a vision of a Post-Robotnik Robotropolis, that this side story comes from. Family Materials takes place in the latter parts of the Blood and Metal story. Alberect (my answer to Robotnik) has fallen and Maatla is free of his evil robotic reign, but at a great price. In an act of sheer treachery, the Heroic Eric Krockett was revealed to be Alberect's son and beaten to death because of it, sending all of Maatla sprialing into a dark age. In the wake was a kingdom of robots set adrift by Alberect's death and lost without a purpose. In this state, the Robians took up Eric's near-death body and roboticized him into the all-nanotech based CUK-2 (Command Unit Krockett). The story follows a trio of kids who, in an adolescent adventure, find the post-Alberect Robitaria and find out how the Robians are doing under the new leader. In fact, thanks to an environmental suit that emulates Robian existance, they get to experience it first hand. There's been a lot of discussions between myself and Alex between the latest chapter of this side story and the next. He raised a whole lot of questions that I found very informative and contemplative as I work on the main storyline in the story. It seems that the world of Maatla, an anthro world betwixt the Middle Ages and the Victorian Steampunk era that found an quantum leap in technology that got out of control, is so vast and massive, with so many dymanics and variables, that in order to tell--actually re-tell--the story I'm going to need to so a multi-volumne series of books, sort of like the Dark Tower or the Sword of Truth series. (To be honest Alex referred to the Sword of Truth series a lot.) Right now I'm currently working on the Scarlet PI brand as well as a secret project, but once I have some time freed up and I can get back to Blood and Metal, I can get to work on making the first volumne, expanding on the world of Maatla and dwelving deeper into Eric Krockett's new life. But that's not meaning that I'm getting off the Side Story however, it's been a fun diversion from the regular grind, and it's something I'd like to keep going on. Read Family Materials |
