What we offer

Four Seasons Prehistoric Project is a small school located in North Central Washington. Our goal is to offer high quality instruction in primitive sustainable living skills to give people the confidence to live in the wilderness simply yet comfortably.

We are experienced and passionate about not just teaching the skills but making them a part of our daily life. This school is not our job; it's our way of life. We live simply, wear buckskin clothing, and eat wild foods, happy to live in a sustainable, respectful manner.

We offer small classes limited to 10-12 participants so that people can get the individual attention necessary to learn the skills effectively.

Not only will we teach you the skills you want to learn but we will also show you how and where to gather the materials you need in a sustainable way so that you gain an understanding of the full experience and, therefore, can recreate your projects endlessly. In other words, we won't just throw a fish at you in exchange for your money but we will teach you everything we know about fishing.

We've spent a long time thinking about the sequences of skills taught in our classes so that you can experience how the tools you make are used in their appropriate context. For instance, we will teach you how to make stone tools, then let you use them in a variety of tasks throughout the rest of classes so that you can test their effectiveness when used properly.

We do not tell you what to do and then watch you while sipping on our coffee. We show you how to perform a certain skill, set you up to do it yourself, and then keep on working on the skill right next to you so that you can watch us and learn from what we're doing.

Our classes are intensives in which you'll learn a lot of things. We strongly believe in hands-on activities and experiential learning and there is no time spent lecturing at a white board.

We strongly believe that learning primitive living skills is best done by being immersed in a primitive living setting. Therefore, participants stay at a primitive camp where meals are cooked on an open fire, water is carried from the nearby creek, and people tell stories or play music around the campfire as entertainment.

We also believe in the practical value of what we have to teach. Everything we do in class is not designed to sit on a shelf but to be useful in later classes and in the project.

Moreover, we give you time to get acquainted to new tools and materials, letting you gain experience and comfort with things that may be unfamiliar.
