News from the Foundation

  • Thanksgiving For the past several years, Peace Corps Volunteers in La Paz have organized a Thanksgiving dinner for the kids at the orphanage.  This year, 30 Volunteers came together to cook for about 20 children and nearly another 25 community members involved with the orphanage.  We had 5 turkeys, gravy, a dozen pumpkin pies, various stuffings, creamed corn, green beans, cranberry sauce, fresh biscuits, squash and sweet potato in several presentations, salad, and a whole table of delectable desserts!  The night concluded with a performance by Sister Edith (playing the guitar) and the kids (singing).  It's quite safe to say everyone left thoroughly stuffed, satisfied, and happy.  We've included here a slideshow with photos from the event.

  • A New Home In conjunction with the local mayor's office and the Virginia Medical Brigade, the Foundation will be breaking ground on a brand new building in December of 2011!  We are anxiously anticipating the groundbreaking and cannot wait to move into our new space.  Though any space can become "home" the longer we live there and the more sentimental moments we share there, the current building we inhabit is old and only roughly rehabilitated.  Our new location was designed by the Virginia Medical Brigade and their collaborators, and will be built from the ground up (and completely furnished!) on a piece of property donated by the mayor's office.  Included here is a photo of the new design.
