Who are We?

The Foundation Señor San José is an orphanage for at-risk and abandoned children located in central Honduras.  Inspired to do more to help the truly poor, Sister Edith Suazo started the home in 2006 as her personal response to the extreme poverty and high need she has witnessed in her country.  What has grown from Sister Edith's original vision is a home which provides love, support, security, and basic necessities to children from La Paz and surrounding areas who live in abusive or neglectful home situations.  The Foundation is run by Sister Edith and overseen by a Junta Directiva (Board of Directors) of local community members. A Grupo de Apoyo (Friends of the Foundation) provides additional guidance and support from its national and international collaborating members.                                                                     .

Mission

Inspired by the Beatitudes (excerpted below)--which says we are truly blessed when we can live with joy and contentment in the face of great difficulties--the Foundation Senor San Jose exists to serve at-risk and abandoned children by providing a home where they can grow spiritually, intellectually, culturally, and socially.  This work is our action, our response, to the hardships encountered by our fellow human beings.

Vision

Our hope is to provide not only a safe and healthy home for the children we take in, but also the resources necessary to ensure their holistic development and overall wellbeing.  With the help and involvement of individuals and groups from the local, national, and international communities, we are working to eventually be fully self-sustainable in our endeavor.

The Beatitudes

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for thiers is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you."

(Mathew 5: 3-12)
