Here are some help/guidelines/steps/tips on advertising through message boards/forums

1. Browse the forum if there is a section for advertisement/promotion of any website/business. Usually (Ads, Advertisement, Business/Job/Income Opportunities, Promotion)

2. If you found one, take time to REGISTER an account, it's free to register. Some forums are requiring for account activation thru email, so you have to login to the email you used in registration and click the website for activation.

3. If no need for activation and the registration of account is completed successfully, you can now go to the ADS section and create your own topic/thread. But before you do that, take some time reading the forum rules, some forums are very strict when it comes to posting advertisement, you MUST follow the rules otherwise, you’ll get banned to that forum.

4. Use a good title/subject for your topic/thread. Topic that are catchy and will attract people to click and read your advertisement.

5. Here's the most important part, MONITOR your advertisement at least 1 or twice a day. Why? Because all other advertisers are also posting on that forum section. The latest post will be at the top, so after few hours, you'll find your advertisement at the bottom of the page, or on the next page. So you must POST A REPLY/FOLLOW UP to your topic/thread to keep it on top. Remember, your Ad should be on top that everyone who browses the forum can see your advertisement. 

My advertising tips
☺ Bookmark/Add to Favorites all forums where you posted an advertisement.
☺ Use the same user name or user id on all forums.
☺ Use the same password
☺ when you login to the forum, check that box Auto-login, Remember Me, or other boxes suggesting that you will be automatically login to the site when you revisit the site. It will save you more time.
