For those of you who do NOT have access to TOPO Maps of NC and don't care to have them anyway, the attached .gpx files may be of use. The files are not routes but rather GPS waypoint markers. If you have a Garmin 205/305 or higher bike computer, these files should allow Navigation by the waypoint method. These files are made available as a service to you but it is up to you to determine how they might best be used with your equipment. In other words, no tech support, at the current time, through this web site. The site located at motionbased.com may be of use to you as well. You will have to establish an account there; but, hey, its free! The motionbased.com site allows one to keep track of their routes by uploading GPS data.
Additional .gpx files may be added to the attachment list below so check back if a desired route is not listed. Eventually a KEY to the route names will be made available so they make more sense to the uninitiated... route mileage will be included too. .GPX files may be coverted to .kml files, for use with Google Earth®, by using one of the converter programs found here. After converting, open the .kml file in Google Earth® using its Open command under the File menu. Look for the waypoints listed in the menu pane located to the left of the screen. Clicking on a waypoint name will navigate Google Earth® to that waypoint. Note the turn indicator (L or R) at the waypoint to determine which way the ride goes. Play around with the program a bit and you will get the hang of it. |
