Field Day

Every year Amateur Radio operators, including the Forsyth County Amateur Radio Emergency Service, set up stations using emergency power-- to ensure that we'll be able to do so when real emergencies arrive.

Field Day 2008 was June 28-29 at the Cumming Fairgrounds, in the campground area behind the Saw Mill. Anyone was  welcome to come, operate, or just watch and talk radio.

We once again used Randal's callsign for field day operations - N4AC.

For 2008 we had 5 stations on the air; 20m Phone, 40m Phone, 80m Phone, 20m CW/Digital, and 40m CW. Antennas included Dipoles, a Vertical, and a Mosley 33JR for 20m Phone (15, and 10 if the bands allowed) directional (beam) antenna, along with two portable trailer mounted 50' masts. Also Randal demonstrated Satellite Communications consisting of computer controlled AZ/EL rotators and an ICOM 910.

Want to help for next year? Please come to the meetings on the second Monday of each month at the Cumming Police Station at 7 PM to get involved in ARES, or stop by the Field Day sight at the fairgrounds and join in the fun!
