Who's ARES?

Forsyth County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) is a group of dedicated Amateur Radio volunteers ("HAMS") made up of people like you.  We care about our community and we provide emergency communications and storm spotter information as a part of Forsyth County's,  and the state of Georgia,  emergency services.  When other forms of normal cummnications fail,  Amateur Radio communication remains functional.

Anyone holding a valid FCC issued Amateur Radio license in Forsyth County , or surrounding counties,  is encouraged to learn more by coming to one of our meetings as described below, or contacting the Emergency Coordinator, Jerry Adams.

The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) consists of licensed amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes. Every licensed amateur, regardless of membership in ARRL or any other local or national organization, is eligible for membership in the ARES. The only qualification, other than possession of an Amateur Radio license, is a sincere desire to serve.
Because ARES is an amateur radio service, only amateur radio operators are eligible for membership. The possession of emergency-powered radio equipment is desirable, but is not a requirement for membership.
