Protest at the Royal Society meeting of Entrepreneurs with Conscience

On Monday 16 March, we protested outside the Royal Society in London where Entrepreneurs with Conscience were meeting. Agrofuel energy company Blue-NG's chief executive Andrew Mercer is a leading light in the Entrepreneurs with Conscience group, and we wanted to make it clear to others attending the meeting that Blue-NG's so-called clean energy is nothing of the sort

Blue-NG recently gained planning permission for the UK’s first agrofuel  power station at Beckton, East London, where it intends to burn nearly 20,000 tonnes of raw virgin vegetable oil per year and get government subsidies for 'renewable' electricity.

About 30 of us gathered outside the Royal Society with numerous colourful banners and a megaphone, and made explicit the concerns both
we and the local community have about Blue-NG.

We conducted two protests, the first at the start of the event from 6:00 to 7:30pm and another as participants left, from 9:00 to 10:15pm.

We spoke to Andrew Mercer, John Sauven, Jonathon Porritt and Lord Oxburgh who were at the Entrepreneurs with Conscience meeting, and also to Vince Cable MP (Lib Dem Treasury spokesman) who was there for a different meeting.
