I suspect that these photos are from the second set of shows we did, April 30 through May 8, 1975, at That Place.Chekov and the ManAlthough the title of "Chekov and the Man" was a play on Chico and the Man, the Jack Albertson-Freddie Prinz sitcom, the skit depicted the crew of the Enterprise from the original Star Trek series encountering the Garden of Eden. Deicidal hilarity ensues. Ron and I have our phasers set on "fun," if I'm not mistaken. Eve--Sue in a leotard, at right--tries to appease a most jealous god,
played by Brian, who wants to know what the heck I'm doing with a
naively naked Adam, played by Jerre. Dope StampsGovernment-subsidized pot? Why not! A very muddy picture, but that's me center stage, with Brian and Sue, I think, to the right. The Galloping GluttonRon is the "Galloping Glutton," based on Graham Kerr's Galloping Gourmet. Ron hamming it up with a beef burger. Guru Who"Guru Who" is loosely based on Transcendental Meditation. Several of us had gone through the TM program by this time. The skit is a monologue, with a few spots where the rest of the cast chants "duh." When we performed this at The University of Iowa, Jerre ad-libbed an extra "duh" several times throughout the skit. The silent take I ad-libbed in response near the end of the skit was probably the single best moment of comedic acting I've ever done. The founder of the Science of Comic Unconsciousness casts a few pearls of
Oriental wisdom before some Occidental swine. Nice kaftan! From the left, Laurie, Ron, Jean, me, and
Jerre. Horoscope SketchI'm drawing a complete blank on this one. Left to right, Jean, Jerre and Brian. Sex Stamps"Sex Stamps" was a companion piece to Dope Stamps--or was it the other way around? Jean, on the left, is an all-business hooker, urging me to whip out some sex stamps. Ron is to the right, and I suspect Jerre is the unfortunate person
I'm blocking. Sugar Junkies"Sugar Junkies" was probably our most popular skit. It's about the tragic happenings at the Junior household when Junior Junior dives into the sugar bowl. Ron and I make a Jerre sandwich. Miscellaneous Pictures
I'm not sure what skits these photos are from. Jean enjoying a moment all to herself onstage. Laurie belting it out. This one really puzzles me. I can remember singing some version of the Mickey Mouse Club song, but why, I couldn't begin to tell you. It might be the closing number for the show. In back, that's
Sue, Jean, Brian and Ron, with Jerre kneeling at left and me at right. |
