It is not too late to volunteer!
We can always use volunteer help. At the present time, most of our opportunities are for second shift (i.e., 8:30 to 11:30 p.m.) times; but these are just as much fun as the earlier shift. Find a partner, or volunteer by yourself...this is a great way to enjoy the best New Years party in the region!
First Night Alexandria is a community celebration of the New Year through the performing arts – music and dance, magic and clowns and a fantastic finale at midnight at the George Washington Masonic Memorial. It is family-friendly, safe, affordable and accessible to all. It is a time for families and individuals of all ages and ethnicities, in a casual atmosphere, to celebrate the end of one year and the hope of a new one. First Night Alexandria is a non-profit organization that supports local performers.
AGE REQUIREMENTS: First Night volunteers MUST be at least 16 years old, and volunteers under 18 years old MUST have parental/guardian permission.
Please use ONE application for each volunteer.
VOLUNTEER TOGETHER: People who would like to volunteer together should identify their requested partner(s) on the form. All efforts will be made to honor your request, but placement cannot be guaranteed.
VOLUNTEER ASSIGNMENTS: Requests are filled on a first come first served basis. Priority is given to previous volunteers and those that attend our orientation in December.
For our regular venues, there will be two shifts, the first is from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and the second is from 8:30 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. (that's right, there is a one-half-hour overlap so that the shift change is smooth). You will be asked to "sign in" one hour before your shift begins at our volunteer headquarters at Durant Recreation Center (1605 Cameron Street, Alexandria, VA 22314-2704), so your total time commitment is approximately four hours.
We also need volunteers at the Visitors Center to help sell tickets and answer questions. Please look at the very bottom of the venue assignment lists (drop down menu). We have several shifts available, but they are not the standard shifts for our regular venues. The shifts are listed next to each Visitor Center venue. We can also use help at the Headquarters at Durant Center. You will do things like selling tickets, will call, public information, and other important tasks that keeps First Night going. Please look for Volunteer Headquarters at Durant Center to volunteer for this and we will be in touch with you about scheduling.
PREVIOUS CRIMINAL RECORD: A conviction record does not automatically disqualify you from volunteering. The nature of the offense(s), date(s) of conviction, and any pattern offenses will be carefully considered in an attempt to protect First Night Alexandria, its volunteers, and patrons.
VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 7 p.m. at Durant Center (1605 Cameron Street, Alexandria 22314). Please plan to attend...it takes less than 90 minutes and we will share a lot of useful information that will help you fulfill your assignment. It also gives you a chance to meet your fellow volunteers.
PLEASE NOTE: The form is long and you will need to scroll down to the "Submit" button in order to send us your application.
THANK YOU!!! |
