"How to Find the
Perfect Aircraft...
and Other Fairytales"
by John Armstrong

John Armstrong is a full time "Aircraft Counselor" for Premier Aircraft...
He spends his time helping people  achieve their aviation dreams and business objectives

I invite you to join me in a journey to find the "Perfect Aircraft".

The perfect aircraft for most of the pilots I meet includes these common characteristics:

  • 1. Carries more than an RV headed to Florida for the winter
  • 2. Out runs a 737 in climb and cruise
  • 3. Avoids weather with ease and grace
  • 4. Lands at a brisk trot using the patch of grass next door
  • 5. Burns 3 or maybe 4 gallons of fuel an hour

  • 6. Cost less than a loaded SUV
  • 7. Insurance for less than $1000 per year
  • 8. Has 0% interest, no down payment and no payments for a year!
  • 9. Redundant glass panel avionics with Sat-Nav and XM radio
  • 10. And of course free fuel and maintenance for the first 5 years and...

Here is a picture of the ideal trainer for the above aircraft so the pilot can "transition"...

I think you can start to get the point. I'm sad to report that the Perfect Aircraft does not exist.

The laws of physics define everything that adds up to aircraft performance and most of what constitutes the perfect airplane is simply impossible.

Before you click off disgruntled with your lip out let's take a slightly different tact and see if we can find the IDEAL aircraft.

When we seek the ideal aircraft we can most definitely succeed in our quest. The most important factor in this search is YOU!  The ideal aircraft objective is the search that is looking to balance all the factors including aircraft performance, pilot experience, travel needs, business requirements, tax considerations, insurance requirements, safety and many other factors with the ever-present laws of economics and the not so apparent dreams that we have and why we fly in the first place.

In this pursuit a qualified experienced "aircraft counselor" can be worth more than their weight. With appropriate guidance you can avoid pitfalls that can be expensive and even potentially dangerous.

Flying is one of the most unique things humans do. Consider the history of effort that went into all the attempts to release man from the surly bonds of earth the first time. Imagine how it must have felt to be a part of aviation in the "early days" when literally everything was new.

As you can tell, I have the aviation bug. I got bit as a child when my dad would draw pictures of airplanes for me to keep me quiet in church. A pivotal moment in my life was when he bought a Piper J-3 Cub. Learning to fly barefooted in that J-3 was one of the most special things in my life. Flying is great and one of the treasures it has brought is how the shared activity with my Dad brought us closer than we would have ever been.

Enough of that sappy stuff...let's get back to talking about your ideal aircraft.

Sorting through the details to determine the ideal aircraft can be a pretty complex task. We can work together using a "Discovery Process" that will help organize the process.

  • 1. We are going to get to know each other a bit.  Its important that you know a bit about me so you'll know about where my recommendations are coming from when we get to that point. If you don't believe or trust that I can help you we will stop right there.
  • 2. We are going to really dig into your flying background and experience and find out why you fly or want to fly. Often this has a huge impact on the aircraft we select.
  • 3. We are going to talk in detail about how you plan or hope to use your airplane and explore who else is involved.
  • 4. If you have an aircraft and this is not your first, we will of course gather all the details of that airplane and what you like most and least about it. We will value the airplane as a trade or brokered position.
  • 5. We will discuss your financial world and explore how aviation can best fit in.
  • 6. We will project into the future and explore where it is you'd like to get to as a pilot. Do you want to circle a grass strip till you are 85 or do you want to move on to instruments, twins, jets or more?
  • 7. Once I have a clear understanding of your situation, usage and the implications of all of the factors, I will provide you a summary of my findings along with a recommendation for an aircraft and the next steps to pursue to obtain your ideal aircraft...all on the time table you define.
  • 8. Next I can introduce all the appropriate resources for insurance, financing, tax savings analysis and related details for you to review and consider. To maximize your effectiveness we will complete these elements before proceeding to the next step.
  • 9. Next we prepare for your demo flight to fully evaluated the recommended aircraft. If we've done our home work properly, you'll love the aircraft and be eager to complete the acquisition as planned. If not, we can easily evaluate what changes we need to make and go from there.
  • 10. We will take care of the acquisition details for you and arrange appropriate training for you in your new airplane and make sure you have the support you need during your first year.

Our goal is to find you your ideal aircraft in the shortest amount of time in the most economical way. It is important to note that you are in control of this process every step of the way. If you want to proceed to the next step we proceed. If you don't, we don't.

I recommend we schedule 30 minutes to get started and transform that "Some Day One Day" vision into a reality.  Email me now to ask questions or schedule an appointment.

 Happy Landings.
