Title: Learn About Organic Eco-Friendly Flowers

Hosted by: Leila Lemghalef

Don’t think fair trade means wilted carnations and dandelions. In this video we learn about flowers that are grown using fair labor practices. All the flowers at Green Poppies are certified Sierra Eco, grown in South America by fairly paid workers using few pesticides. For more information click:

Green Poppies: Fair Trade & Chemical-free flowers!

November 20, 2008 / by admin

green-poppies-flower-arrangement.jpg

“I was personally very curious to know if chemical-free flowers would look or smell different from traditional ones bought at any flower shop. To my utter surprise, there was an enormous difference- mostly in smell… or should I say, lack there of! Not only do these flowers ‘fresher’ but when they are starting to die down, they still smell nice! So, now you’re probably asking yourself how much more expensive these flowers are compared to traditional ones- well, they are NOT! You should try them out for yourself and see what an incredible difference it is.”

-       Ravit, Founder of Nature’s Wizard

Atelier de Fleurs Green Poppies is a Montreal-based company who make beautiful flower arrangements using mostly locally grown flowers, thus promoting fair trade. The second advantage to their arrangements are that the flowers do NOT contain fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides or any other kind of chemicals. You may be wondering why it’s important to purchase flowers without chemicals… well, it’s very simple. The flowers in your home that you enjoy looking at and smelling are not giving off toxic fumes that may be posing a threat to your health.

Green Poppies is located at 5658A Parc Avenue in Montreal. You can reach Cecilia or Laurence for incredible on-on-one service at 514-279-1120 or check out their website at www.greenpoppies.com .

GREEN POPPIES

If you've ever thought flowers are fair trade, well, they're not. Cecilia Ramirez's flower shop is tucked away on a convenience-oriented block of Parc Ave. between St-Viateur and Bernard. Her shop is more of an "atelier de fleurs," in which you can participate in the selection of fresh flowers and learn about the provenance of your bouquet, floral design or anything else your inquiring mind wants to know about flowers. While not all the flowers at Green Poppies are yet fair trade, Ramirez makes an effort to ensure that all her plants and flowers are at least locally grown. For Christmas, she has local poinsettias and promising-looking Christmas amaryllises, as well as the most adorable miniature Cypress trees, which would make lovely Christmas trees for the Whos of Whoville. Small is indeed beautiful. www.greenpoppies.com, 5658A Parc Ave., 514-279-1120. (MK).
