Flood Road: About the band

J. Peter Yakel & Flood Road
hail from upstate New York, playing an original recipe of “Acoustic FolkGrass”: a blend of Americana, Bluegrass and Folk, with a pinch of Rock-n-Roll for proper seasoning. Their rootsy song mix cooks up a batch of memorable toe-tappers and eye-weepin’ ballads as varied and unpredictable as the northeast seasons.

It goes without saying, (but we'll say it anyway), that it's expectedly easy to be swooned by these fellas and their saucy good looks.  Talk about several cool drinks of water...Many's the brokenhearted women in Capitaland and beyond...that said, don't sell this hot stack of eye candy short.  They's bonafide!  These good time boys mean business, and love giving it to you!  The musical luminaries' charisma and charm is such that both celebs and ordinary Joe's and Jane's alike are drawn to them like moths to dadblamed wing-scorchin' flames. Aside from the always-hungry fans seeking snapshots with the boys (they're particularly popular with folks from Uruguay and Costa Rica), a few notables that have managed to squeeze into photos with the boys: Elizabeth Cook, Rick Hayes, Buddy Merriam, Leroy Troy.  The list goes on and on and on...

In the three short years since stomping onto the Capitaland music scene, the Flood Road boys, or FRB, to exuberant fans, have enjoyed a plethora of high-profile gigs in many of America's illustrious halls and hallowed venues.  A snippet of the long and distinguished list: The Altamont Fair, Brown's Bewing Co., Saratoga's Parting Glass, Schenectady's Arthur's Market, The Moon & River Cafe, The Rosendale Street Festival, Troy's one and only River Street Beat Shop, The ABL Roundup, CDFM Strawberry Festival, Schenectady Harvest Festival, Muddy Cup, The Van Dyke, Uncle Ben's Tavern, Waterford Tugboat Roundup, The Lyons Lake Inn, etc., etc., etc.  You get the picture.  If you haven't seen FRB live, well, you haven't seen 'em live...better fix that shortcomin' lickity-split!  After all, is you is, or is you ain't, our constituency???

Favorite band quotes: "World domination, one gig at a time.", and "We're on the cusp of Grandeur!" and "Homegrown music...east to enjoy...that's Flood Road!"

As expected, FRB is a multi-media band. Aside from a bevy of beautious still photos, and coveted live performances, you can also enjoy the boys via literature, videos, and television.  Who can forget their inspiring performance (41 seconds into the celluloid) for the prestigious "Art Night Schenectady" spot on SACC-TV Channel 16? Course, there's a pile of news article about the band co-hosting the 2009 Rhythm on the Ridge Music Festival at Maple Ski Ridge. Check out the Times Union news article about the event in Rotterdam, NY on June 13th, prominently listed here and here on CyberGrass, the mother-of-all bluegrass websites.  Another dandy fest article on the NorthEast Country Music Association (NECMA) website too.  Then there's a sweet article about the music fest that the Spotlight Newspaper reported as well.  Or toe-tap to the boy's enjoyable video rendition of "Constant Sorrow" at the MSR Fall Festival, and The Professor's thought-provoking song, "Dirty Lunch Pail"?  For the inquisitive minded, and to settle the swirl and angst surrounding the origin of the band's name, settled once and for all by J. Peter hisself, see the exclusive Crumb's Blog interview...and on and on goes the band's media exposure...

And lets not forget about the radio.  FRB music is spinning internationally on fine broadcast FM and Internet radio stations, like WWB, WEBR, WEXT, WICR, WUSB, WVCR, WMUC, KDNK, KCRL, and AFC Radio.  Thanks for the support!  Whatever your favorite station happens to be, dial it in and make a Flood Road song request today!  If FRB isn't in your station's rotation, tell 'em to add us!  We's bonafide!

J. Peter Yakel and Tom King are members of the Adirondack Bluegrass League (ABL) and Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI).  J. Peter is also a member of the NorthEast Country Music Association (NECMA)Hot damn, it's the Flood Road boys!!!
