Poetry
Some favorites of mine, some favorites of Room 8, and some original work by Room 8,
A poem a day, keeps your heart okay . . .
The Purple Cow
(Reflections on a Mythic Beast Who's Quite Remarkable At Least.)
I never saw a purple cow,
I never hope to see one;
But I can tell you, Anyhow,
I'd rather see than be one!
-Gellett Burgess
Dan W. likes this poem that he created himself . . .
I'm bringing home a baby dinosaur.
Won't my Mother fall right through the floor?
Because I'm bringing home a baby dinosaur!
Sara, Elizabeth, Corinna, and Katlynn all like:
Monster Meatballs
Monster meatballs
So scary to chew.
First you bite THEM,
Then they bite YOU.
-Douglas Florian
Everyone has fun reciting this one . . .
Hello, My Name Is Dracula
Hello, my name is Dracula.
My clothing is all blackula.
I drive a Cadillacula.
I am a maniacula.
I drink blood for a snackula.
Your neck I will attackula
With teeth sharp as a tackula.
At dawn I hit the sackula.
Tomorrow I'll be backula!
-Douglas Florian
Dan F. has two favorite poems to say:
Jack and Jill went up the hill
To fetch a pail of water.
Jack fell down and broke his crown
And Jill came tumbling after.
Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are?
Up above the world so high,
like a diamond in the sky.
Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are?
Matthew is a real fan of Corinna's poem, Squack!
Squack!
Squack! Squack! Squack!
You rock!
I said,
Squack! Squack! Squack!
You rock!
Squack! What?
-Corinna
Corinna has some other poems to share . . .
My Cat
I have a cat.
It is my cat.
It is a cute cat.
I take care of my cat.
I love him as much as that!
-Corinna
Butterfly
"Butterfly, what are you doing?"
"I am making my cocoon
and eat?"
"Bye!"
Here's a quartet of poems by Kelsea:
The Cat
I saw a cat
that sees a rat
which gave him a bad habitat.
- Kelsea
Snow
Snow is fun
It's just begun.
I don't ever want to see that sun.
So, I am done
with that sun.
-Kelsea
My Ice
My ice is so cold.
I leave it in the freezer.
But my Mom says first
I have to tease her.
-Kelsea
I Love Snow
Oh, I love snow.
It is cold.
Do you think because of the cold
I am getting old?
