Bio

I received my B.S. degree in electrical engineering from The California Institute of Technology in 2003 and my M.S. and Ph.D degrees in electrical engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 2005 and 2008, respectively. In 2000-2001 I worked on satellite module testing at Hughes Space and Communications and at Boeing Satellite Systems as an intern. I worked on RF channel modeling at Rockwell Collins in 2005.

During the course of my graduate studies, I was co-advised by Robert Heath and Sriram Vishwanath.

I am currently working for the MITRE Corporation.

Research Interests

My research focuses on multihop wireless networks. Specifically, I am studying the problem of relay node selection. At its core, the relay selection problem is analogous to the well-studied problem of routing in a multihop wireless network. The objective is to select appropriate relay nodes (or routes) for data from a source node to pass through to reach an intended destination node.

What distinguishes relay selection from classical routing is that the route selection problem is now considered from a multi-layer perspective, whereas previous work on classical routing was mainly concerned with network layer performance. I approach this difficult multi-layer problem by incorporating aspects of physical layer/MAC layer design. By considering these lower layers of the OSI stack in route selection, I have been able to formulate selection strategies that enhance key overall system performance measures, including throughput.

For a more thorough discussion of relay selection, see this page.

I am also interested in the following problems related to multihop wireless networks:

  • Cross-layer design
  • Algorithm design and development
  • Hybrid-ARQ transmission strategies
  • Obtaining performance bounds via information-theoretic analysis
