Early this past summer, discussion began as to how communications at Flagstaff would need to change this year in order to better accommodate our growing staff, student and parent population. After some brainstorming and idea-sharing, it was decided that the monthly Flagstaff newsletter (which has, in the past, been created and published electronically by a parent volunteer) would be discontinued in favor of a new Flagstaff monthly newspaper. This new publication will be written and produced by the middle school's new journalism class, which meets daily. This group of students was selected based on their writing prowess and their interest in news media. The newspaper is printed by the Daily Times-Call, along with other area high school newspapers. Flagstaff is the only middle school in the St. Vrain Valley School District with its own professionally supervised and professionally printed newspaper! Watch for their interviews, recaps, profiles and special interest articles, as well as their bylines! The new Flagstaff newspaper will be produced in hard copy, and will be a work-in-progress, with the journalism staff making decisions about the format, appearance, and features as the year progresses.
