Physics Syllabus:
Physics is the study of matter, motion, forces and energy.  It ranges from the unimaginably tiny (atoms, electrons, quarks) to the incredibly large (stars, galaxies, the universe).  Physics uses math to model the world, and students often say it is an "applied math" class.

     In our class, students will:
*Study our current understanding of how the universe works.
*Learn the math.
*Carry out contained lab activities (with detailed instructions).
*Practice math.
*Investigate/research assigned subjects, then communicate their findings in a clear manner.
*Practice the math more!
*Challenge labs - students are given a task, and they accomplish this task in any way they wish.  Grade is based on percent error from assigned task.  Examples include the "Ramp Lab", and the course final "Waterballoon Launcher Lab".  Creativity and "out of the box" thinking is recommended.

     Grading:
100-90% = A
89-79% = B
78-68% = C
67-57% = D
56-0% = F

Points are usually split about 50% tests, and 50% labs and homework.  Homework is assigned every night, and checked or stamped about half the time.  All homework is due on our unit test day.

     Order of units studied:
Intro, metrics, measuring
Motion in 1 dimension
Vectors
Gravity, astronomy
Forces, friction
Work, power
Momentum
Energy
Waves, sound
Light
Electricity
Magnetism
