It looks like we're going to
have pretty good weather on Sunday, so we are going to be working at
Fitzgerald Elementary that afternoon. We need to do quite a bit of
weeding in the vegetable planters, as well as thin out some of the
prairie plants. We will be digging up a few Mexican Hat plants if you
want some. We should have the tools, but if you have a favorite weeder
or hand pruner, please bring it. Also, bring your water container (I
will have water for refills) and your garden gloves. And don't forget
sunscreen!
We will be working in the garden from 1:00 to 4:00 (at least) and we'd love to have you join us. We could really use your help. |

Wow, you guys really CAN collect CANS! The total number of cans
collected by the garden club members in two months was 9,767! That's
amazing!
Due to your hard work and the high number of cans collected, the
adults have decided that we have FIVE winners! The top five collectors
are Samantha with 1,837 cans, David and Jonathan with 1,970 cans,
Shelby with 2,516 cans, and Martin with 2,739 cans. We will be
coordinating with you to determine when and where we are going for
dinner!
Congratulations to all of you for doing such a great job! The
money we get from recycling the cans will go toward making our garden
even better.
And don't forget - we are starting a new contest this week that
will run through the end of May. Ask your Mom or Dad to take you to a
park to pick up littered cans, and ask your friends and neighbors to
save cans. You all have another chance to raise money for the garden
and win a prize (to be announced next week). Maybe we CAN collect over
10,000 cans this time!
Thanks to all of you who collected cans! You are really making a difference!

Hi, Fitz garden club members! It was a beautiful day to be outside
yesterday and it was especially beautiful in the garden. A big thanks
to those who came out and worked. David and Jonathan earned an extra 50
cans each for coming out to help. Our next workdays will be April 5 and
April 19, from noon to 4:00.
The finish line is fast approaching for the can contest. To make
it easier for everyone, I have extended it to this Wednesday, April 1.
That will be the last day we will count cans for this contest. If we
get a lot of cans that day, we may not be able to announce the winners
during the meeting. But we should be able to announce within the next
couple of days and then we will make arrangements with the three
winners for dinner!
As of today, Shelby is still in the lead with 1443 cans, but
Martin has really picked up the pace with 1227 cans. David and Jonathan
are still neck and neck with 764 and 761 cans. And Samantha is right
around the corner with 405 cans. All together, you have collected over
5200 cans so far!
And don't forget we are going to have the plant identification
contest on Wednesday. I have decided to increase the prize a bit. The
student who correctly identifies all 25 plants first will get credit
for an extra 400 cans, second will get 300 cans, and 3rd will get 200
cans.
Hope you've been studying your plants!
For the adult volunteers - the weather is supposed to be really
nice on Wednesday, so I will be there at noon to get prepared and do
more work in the garden.
See you on Wednesday! Ms. Rosenthal |

To All Fitzgerald Families,
It looks like the skies are going to clear and it will be a
beautiful Sunday, so I am going to be working at the Fitzgerald
garden from noon to 4:00. If you would like to spend part of your
afternoon helping me, your company would be very much appreciated. Just
bring water, your garden work gloves, and your favorite pair of hand
pruners (or you can borrow one of ours). I will demonstrate some
pruning techniques for those in attendance.
All Fitzgerald students' families are welcome to help out on any
of our workdays. We only ask that children be accompanied by at least
one adult family member. But that doesn't mean you can't bring more!
And you can come for part or all of the time. We will put you to work,
but you will also learn a lot, make new friends, and have bunches of
fun! So put the following dates on your calendar and come help make our
garden even better!
Sunday, March 15, noon to 4:00
Wednesday, March 18, noon to 4:00 (during spring break)
Sunday, March 29, noon to 4:00
Hope to see you in the garden soon!
