AttireQ: Where should I purchase my dance attire?A: Willie's (Fishweir dancers receive a 10% discount!), All About Dance, Back Bay Dancewear, Dance 'n Stuff, Danskin, Discount Dance Supply, Make Believe, Online Dancewear and River's Edge Dancewear have high quality products for low prices.
Q: Why do I have to wear formfitting attire?A: Your teacher cannot properly encourage and correct your movement unless she can see the outline of your body.
Q: Oops! I forgot my dance clothing today! What do I do?A: It will be noted on your dance class attendance record and you will have to "sit out" and observe the class from the sidelines.
Hair and MakeupQ: What is a chignon? How do I put my hair in a chignon?A: Chignon (pronounced shin-yawn) is a French word meaning "roll or knot of hair". Putting your hair in a chignon involves four easy steps:
1. Pull your hair into a tight ponytail.
2. Twist the hair with your fingers and wrap it around the base of the ponytail.
3. Secure with bobby pins and hairspray.
4. Cover chignon with a matching hairnet (nylon). Q: Why do I have to pull my hair back?A: Hanging hair obstructs vision and is distracting/dangerous when executing turns. It also detracts from head and shoulder placement (épaulement).
Q: What is "pre-makeup"?A: "Pre-makeup" consists of foundation that matches your skin tone, pink blush, dark red lipstick and black mascara.
Jewelry and NailsQ: Why can't I wear jewelry?A: It is non-traditional and distracting.
Q: Why can't I have long, false, polished or decorated nails?A: All of these are non-traditional and distracting.
RehearsalsQ: What happens if I miss a rehearsal?A: It will be noted on your dance class attendance record. Absences require a written note from home and/or a doctor's excuse. More than 3 absences may result in termination of your performance participation! |
