The History of Fishkill Elementary School:
The First School (1805-1830) - A Private boarding school that is now located on Rapalje Road and Hopewell Ave. The original site of the school stood in the graveyard of the Fishkill's First Reformed Dutch Church.

The Second School (1840-1870) - Located on Broad Street in Fishkill but was demolished in 1976.

The Third School (1866-1908) - Completed in 1872 named Union Free School # 6 was located where Fishkill Elementary now stands. Originally the land was owned by the pastor of the Fishkill Dutch Reformed Church.

The Fourth School (1910-Present) - Built to replace the previous school which burned down in September 1909. Many valuable items were lost in the fire including documents containing records of the district from colonial days! There have been numerous additions to Fishkill Elementary to accommodate our growing population (1952, 1954, 1962, & 2008).

The Tower of Fishkill Elementary School is one of the oldest public buildings continually in use as a school in New York State. Reference

Fishkill Elementary School's mascot is Melvin the Frog. His name was decided through election in the 1990s. 

Fishkill Elementary students and alumni are called "Fishkill Frogs."

There is a tradition at Fishkill Elementary School that each fifth-grader ring the bell  in the historic Bell Tower as a part of the Moving Up Celebrations.

In the 1970s Fishkill Elementary frog mascot was named "Tackleberry".

Fishkill Elementary celebrated 75 years in 1985 with a parade through the village and an old fashioned country fair on the school grounds.

A geological survey discovered that Fishkill Elementary School is 223 ft above sea level. In 1933 a monument memorializing this information was placed on the school grounds and it still remains.

The school's All Purpose Room that now serves as the cafeteria and assembly room used to be a gym and cafeteria with a library on the stage. 

Fishkill Elementary's 3rd & 4th grade wing was added to the building in 1952.

The school bell of Fishkill Elementary is dedicated to Oliver Barmes.
