Fly Fishing the Ste-Marguerite River

We can help you plan your trip including recommending hotels, cabins, camping etc on or near the river.
We can also help you find other activities such as whale watching, museum tours ... even a jaunt to the Casino.

We can meet you at a convenient location too to make sure everything comes together properly.

Jump over to the calenders page to see about availability.

Salmon fishing:

  • Rates for 2009 are 200.00 $/day cdn for one including lunch and 50.00$ cdn per angler after that.
  • I really can only Guide groups of 4 or less. (and 4 if the group are extremely well experienced anglers). More being just too difficult to provide the quality of service that one would expect.
  • If you are a large group, we can arrange outings with 2 or more Guides.
  • If you are need of casting instruction, it is strongly recommended that I be signed in for the day. My daily rod fee is covered by the client. This measure is necessary to facilitate instruction.
  • We carry extra waders and rods in case of emergencies or accidents.
  • If you need full equipment, contact us in advance.
  • Most clients prefer to bring their own flies. We have on hand a selection of flies for both salmon and trout. A nominal compensation for flies is expected if clients start losing flies on every second cast. Additional flies can be purchased stream side if desired.
  • Tips are entirely at the discretion of the client.

Late season sea trout:

The second season of sea run brook trout starts September 16th. Rates for this portion of the season are 180.00 $/day cdn for one angler and 40.00$ cdn per additional angler. The lower cost of this outing is due to the shorter day and easier nature of the fishery. Lunch is included.

A day on the river during the summer starts around 07h00 (or earlier) ...

... and ends when you can't fish anymore.

Jack Crawford - Sunset on the July long weekend

The provincial regulations in Quebec limit fishing from one hour before sunup until one hour after sundown. A very long day for even the heartiest of souls.

The Ste-Marguerite is a relatively small river compared to other salmon rivers in Eastern Canada, so drifting is not usually needed. Wading is the norm on most pools and the gravel and rock bottom of most runs is quite easy to navigate on foot. Some rare opportunities may present themselves where casting from a drift boat is necessary, but not often.

New for 2009, we can offer drift boat fishing if the water levels are anormally high or to hit some of those out of the way pools. We are using a Dave Scadden Outlaw Outfitter.

While planning your trip, drop us a line so we can see exactly what kind of outing you are looking for. We can provide:
  • rods, flies and other equipment;
  • casting lessons;
  • fishing tactics.
We can also recommend the best season to come and visit us depending on your wishes (adult salmon, grisle, sea run trout).

article that I
wrote a few years ago:

"A fishing Horror story"

Atlantic salmon fishing is covered by a sort of "mystique" that it is difficult and out of reach for most anglers.
In my humble opinion, this is simply not true.
Drop us a line and we will show you how you can arrange the fishing trip of a lifetime.
