The Payette National Forest is planning to fill a GS-0482-12, Fisheries Biologist position. This position serves as the Fisheries Program Manager for the Forest. The duty station is McCall, Idaho. This notification is being circulated to inform prospective applicants of this upcoming opportunity and to determine interest in the position.
Position Description: This position is located at the Payette National Forest Supervisor’s Office in McCall, Idaho. The position provides leadership and technical expertise for the fisheries program area including consultation with regulatory agencies under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Chinook salmon, steelhead, and bull trout are ESA-listed fish species on the Forest. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Advises SO and District Staff on ESA consultation and serves as a Level 1 Representative on the consultation team;
Coordinates with Natural Resources Staff Officer and district rangers and biologists to develop the fisheries program of work and associated budget, and report accomplishments;
Reviews monitoring reports, NEPA documents, plans, and biological evaluations and assessments related to fish habitat restoration and impacts to fisheries;
Maintains consultation record (i.e., BAs, level 1 meeting notes) and document library;
Develops grants and agreements with partners (e.g., Nez Perce Tribe, Idaho Fish and Game) for cooperative work related to fisheries;
Oversees fisheries monitoring activities and prepares monitoring reports.
