Submission Guidelines

Submitted papers must be original work, not previously published* and not concurrently submitted elsewhere.
Before submitting your manuscript, please check how it fits with our publication mandate.
Also please check the Wiley-Blackwell conflict of interest statement.

* Note that this includes on-line working papers, or any document whatsoever available on the web.

ABSTRACT: 250 words maximum.

KEYWORDS:
Key words, list up to six terms, suitable for indexing or web searches, in alphabetical order and separated by commas; keep manuscript specific, e.g. 'Malthusian overfishing', not 'fishing'.

TITLE:  short and informative; normally 12 words maximum; avoid taxonomic and geographic minutiae

LENGTH: desirable length no more than 9000 words (text, excluding references). Authors will be asked to shorten or justify longer submissions.

MANUSCRIPT LAYOUT

      Ensure pages are all numbered: line numbers are not mandatory
    Table of contents (not for Ghoti and short contributions): list all section headings and subheadings. Omit page numbers.
    Introduction
    Other headed sections as appropriate
    Acknowledgements: these should include mention of any financial and logistic support.
    References: see below
    Tables with their legends above the table body. Start each Table on a new page.
    Figure legends starting on a separate page.
    Figures: see below; paste each figure on
a new page of the manuscript. Use a medium/low resolution image.

FORMAT for submitted manuscript files:
    Please send your manuscript in Word .doc format (Note: the free 'Open Office' software will save in this format)
    Please note that .docx files are now acceptable.
    Do not send Latek, PDF* or flat ascii files.
    Do not send separate figure or table files at first submission

    Do not send manuscripts that contain 'track changes' or other notes and annotations*
    Manuscripts that do not conform to these guidelines will be returned for correction

EQUATIONS
     Please note that Microsoft never addressed serious issues with the equation editor in Word 2007:
     for this reason we will can accept equations written with Word 2003, Word 2010 or Word 2011.

    See publishers guide for authors

    Web Addresses  For publication in the Reference List, the full reference details must be given along with the URL
     i.e., authorship, year, title of document/report and URL.
    NOTE If this information is not available, the reference should be removed and only the web address cited in the text.

    High resolution (300dpi) illustrations will be required at the revision stage.

COLOUR ILLUSTRATIONS
    Where required, colour will be reproduced free for the web and PDF versions of your paper.
