First Families of Vancouver's African American Community

First Families of Vancouver's African American Community: From World War II to the 21st Century is a cultural program documenting the stories of African Americans who migrated to southwest Washington State during the Second World War.

Project members have identified African American families who settled in Vancouver at mid-century in order to record their stories in a book and other associated materials for the public.

Working partnerships with NAACP Branch 1139, Clark County Historical Museum, Washington State University Vancouver, Clark College, and other local institutions reinforce the project’s commitment to present a mosaic of the community’s cultural history for the enrichment of all.
