If you are a guest here today at FEL, welcome.   Please sign our visitor’s book at the front of the church.

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS OF WATER, SODA AND BEER CANS AND BOTTLES TO OUR YOUTH GROUP, DAKAWPA.  This project was begun to assist with our budget process so the young people would have monetary resources to fund the activities they want to participate in.  With YOUR help, this has been a great fundraiser for them.  The bottle barrel is in the hall by Amos Lounge every Sunday for your bottle contributions.  Again, we thank you with grateful hearts!

OUR FEL FAMILY IS A REAL BLESSING!  One year ago we kicked off the RAISE THE ROOF CAMPAIGN to fund roof repairs that were badly needed on the church building.  We set a goal of $10,000.00 with a real prayer behind the goal.  Well, with the assistance of the Lord, you helped us exceed the goal by raising over $16000.00!  Repairs that were done were about $9000.00 leaving the balance over $7000.00.      As many of you know we are still looking many repairs to the roof, especially after the light fixture overheating and sending sparks down on the Altar Table during Worship.    At the November meeting, the Council decided to keep the Raise the Roof campaign open throughout 2012.  You are welcome to donate a roof tile by naming it in a loved one’s honor or memory.  Please fill out the form with your information along with your check and we will Raise the Roof even higher!   Thanks be to God!

 COMMEMORATIONS FOR THE WEEK

Sunday, May 27, 2012
John Calvin, renewer of the church, died 1564

Gifted both as a systematic theologian and as an interpreter of scriptures, Calvin embraced the Reformation, and as a preacher in Geneva, Switzerland, brought a theocratic government to it. He is regarded as the father of the Reformed churches.

Tuesday, May 29
Jiri Tranovsky, hymnwriter, died 1637

Tranovsky is considered to be the father of Slovak hymnody as well as an important reformer of the Slavic church. He translated the Augsburg Confession (the basis of Lutheran teachings) and published a collection of Slovak hymns.

Thursday, May 31
Visit of Mary to Elizabeth

This festival marks the occasion when Mary, pregnant with Jesus, visited her cousin Elizabeth who was herself pregnant with John. Elizabeth pronounced Mary "blessed among women," and Mary responded with the song called the Magnificat.

Friday, June 1
Justin, martyr at Rome, died around 165

Born of pagan parents, Justin was influenced by an elderly Christian in Ephesus. He became a teacher of philosophy and the Christian faith. Jailed for practicing an unauthorized religion, he refused to renounce his faith and was beheaded.

Sunday, June 3
John XXIII, Bishop of Rome, died 1963

When elected pope, the former Angelo Roncalli was expected to be a short-term caretaker. He showed great spirit, though, and convened the Second Vatican Council which helped bring great changes to Roman Catholic and other churches.

Sunday, June 3
The Martyrs of Uganda, died 1886

On June 3, 1886, thirty-two young men were burned to death for refusing to renounce Christianity. The confident manner in which these Christians went to their deaths contributed to a much stronger Christian presence in Uganda.
