The illustrations are the absolute jewel of this book. Each item pictured is carefully hand crafted and perfectly posed. The attention paid to the tiny details make this book extra special. Mimi’s dress up tutu, the fringed sofa, the spider plant (complete with baby) – all attest to how much thought and work went into the process of making Mimi’s life and surroundings appealing.
She does a brilliant job with the faces – conveying a wide range of facial expressions with the lift of an eyebrow or the widening of the mouth. We see cranky, surprised, concentrated, happy, and appalled – each one expertly done. The story follows Mimi on a typical day in the life of a preschooler - eating breakfast, feeding her pets, taking a trip to the library, and so on. Kids can identify with her daily routine and parents will enjoy the humorous touches (her mum’s expression at the library!) tucked in. Overall, Mimi is delightful! We hope Carol returns to her scissors and felt for a Mimi sequel.
