North Star Home Inspections - Fire Safety Inspections

In the United States more than 80% of fire related deaths occur in residences and in 2007 more than 7.5 billion dollars of property loss were the result of residential fires.
A Home Fire Safety Inspection will greatly reduce the chances of a fire from occurring in your home and increase your fire safety awareness.
Most fire departments do not perform Home Fire Safety Inspections (budget and staffing short falls prevent this service from being provided).

The National Institute of Fire and Safety Training (www.nifast.org) and the Live Safe Foundation (www.live-safe.org) have teamed up to promote fire safety and awareness. In addition, NIFAST trains and certifies inspectors to perform Home Fire Safety Inspections.

The goal of a Home Fire Safety Inspection is to:
  1. identify potential fire safety problems or risks
  2. improve the home's fire safety profile
  3. educate or improve the home owners or occupants fire safety awareness
  4. make recommendations on how to improve fire safety and awareness

The following are some of the areas or systems of the home that are included in a Fire Safety Inspection:
  • smoke & carbon monoxide detectors
  • fire extinguishers
  • fire alarm and fire protection systems
  • fire exit plans
  • emergency lighting
  • general storage, housekeeping, decorations and candles
  • space heaters, furnaces, electrical, stoves, dryers, water heaters
  • and much more
All inspections follow the National Institute of Fire and Safety Training's residential guide lines, and will contain recommendations on how to improve your home's fire safety profile and your fire safety awareness.
