7 South Expectations
Classroom Expectations
ENTERING CLASSROOM: Students are expected to enter each class with necessary materials before the bell rings. Time before the bell rings should be used to sharpen pencils and take out appropriate materials.
MATERIALS: Every student is expected to bring their binder to EACH class. Please make sure your assignment notebook is in the front of your binder and completed each class EVERY DAY. Teachers will check both your binder and planner throughout the year.
DURING CLASS: To maximize class time students are expected to be in class on time with necessary materials. Students are to show respect to classmates and teachers by remaining quiet and attentive when someone else is speaking.
Students are welcome to borrow supplies/equipment from teachers with permission. If students need to sharpen pencils, throw away trash, or borrow materials, it is expected that students raise their hands at appropriate times. It is inappropriate for students to interrupt class discussions, presentations or lectures.
EXITING CLASSROOM: The teacher will dismiss class, not the bell. Before students exit the classroom, students are expected to clean up the area around their desks and to straighten their desks to the appropriate positions. Students should be sitting in their assigned seats quietly prior to dismissal.
TARDIES: Students are tardy if they enter the classroom without a pass after the bell rings. If students are tardy, they will receive a lunch detention.
DETENTIONS: Students can receive detentions for the following:
- Entering a classroom unprepared
- Entering a classroom tardy
- Disruptive/disrespectful behavior
If a student receives a detention, they are expected to serve it the following day. Students are to go directly to the classroom to serve the detention.
RESTROOM/LOCKER BREAKS: Students will be given five passes per quarter. Teachers will pass these out at the beginning of each quarter. They are to be kept in each student’s binder. Students are responsible for keeping these passes all quarter, if they are lost new passes will not be issued. Any unused pass can be turned in to a core teacher for extra credit at the end of each quarter.
USE APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE: Profanity, put-downs, threats, and bullying will not be tolerated in the classroom or in the hallway. Such actions will result in a detention without warning.
Academic ExpectationsGRADE SUMMARIES: A small printout of each student’s grades will be given in each core class every Thursday. These will include the student’s current grades as well as each assignment. These grade summaries are to be signed by a parent or guardian and returned with your child the following day. LATE WORK (Late Work Policy):
- One day late = 85% of grade earned
- Two days late = 70% of grade earned
- Three days or more late = 50% of grade earned
IN ORDER TO COUNT TOWARD YOUR GRADE, ANY LATE/MISSING WORK MUST BE TURNED IN BY THE FOLLOWING THURSDAY. GRADING POLICY: All assignments will be graded according to the district grading policy.
A = 90 – 100% B = 80 – 89% C = 70 – 79% D = 60 – 69% F = 59% or below
ASSIGNMENT CATEGORIES: There are 3 main categories for assignments. 45% will be based on major assignments (tests, projects, presentations, labs, quizzes). 50% will be based on daily assignments (participation, warm-up logs, group work, in-class assignments, and homework assignments). 5% will be based on quarterly assessment scores (hense quarterly scores count for 10% of the major assignment category grade).
MAKE-UP WORK: On the day a student returns from an absence, it is his/her responsibility to meet with me (before or after school) to arrange to make up work missed. For each consecutive absence, students will be allowed two consecutive school days to complete make-up work. QUARTERLY ASSESSMENTS: At the conclusion of each quarter, an assessment in the form of a standardized, multiple-choice test will be administered. The district has developed these assessments. OTHER ASSESSMENTS: Tests, quizzes, projects, etc. that I have designed will be incorporated into the curriculum. In general, there will be a test or project for each unit covered in class. Quizzes will be given continuously throughout the year to assess progress.
