Hi, my great grandfather is Henry Kiel, born 8/01/1841, died 11/09/1910
and buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas Tx beside his daughter,
Nora, who died in 1906. According to my aunt, my grandmother, Mamie,
lived as a child in Burton, Washington County. There were 4 girls born
to Henry & Rachel(my aunt thinks her grandmother's name was Rachel
- not positive) Kiel: Mamie was born as Mary Marie; however, her name
was changed to Mamie when she was confirmed in the Lutheran Church. Her
sisters were: (I am not sure of any of the spelling of the names) Lena
- who married a Krause; Fredrica - who married Gus Hackemack, and Nora
- who died a young girl. Mamie was born to Henry & Rachel in 1880
in Raeburg. Mamie married P.J. Blackburn in Washington County on
November 1, 1902 according to Vol 14, pg 307. Mamie & P.J. lived in
Lampasas. P.J. died on Easter Sunday (April 9, 1944). Mamie died March
2, 1968. They had 8 children, one of whom died as an infant. I remember
her talking of taking day trips on the train to Galveston from
Washington County when she was a girl. I understand her mother died and
was buried in Washington County. I don't know where, but I hope to
visit there soon and see if I can find her grave. I feel sure we are
all talking about the same Kiel family. If you know the full name of my
great grandmother,Henry's wife, will you please let me know. It was so
exciting to read all the messages today. I hope we can put some more
pieces of the puzzle together. http://genforum.genealogy.com/kiel/messages/101.html Cemetery Pages: http://www.cemeteries-of-tx.com/Wtx/Lampasas/cemetery/Oak%20Hill%20F-M.html |
