Part 2: Digital Photo Editing Experiences

From open source image manipulation programs such as GIMP to high-end photo imaging software such as Adobe Photoshop, there are many options for enhancing your photographs. Some changes are subtle like the brightness/contrast adjustments made to the photo on the right that was taken near Bar Harbor, Maine. Other modifications may radically change the appearance or message of a photo.

Try a few of the following techniques:
  • Adjust brightness and contrast
  • Adjust the color
  • Add a border
  • Crop the image
  • Remove or all elements to the image
  • Insert text or other graphics
  • Apply a filter
Here's a quick example:
As part of an escrapbooking project, I wanted to clean up a photo taken of my great, great uncle Elmer Anderson in 1894. Notice the flaw across the image. Using Adobe Fireworks, the photo was lightened and the flaw was removed. Learn more about Digital Reproduction of photographs.
