posted Apr 26, 2012 12:14 PM by Erika Segraves

From Bill White, LDFM: OK folks, the PIPI foray is set. Morels are starting to pop.  We can try to get into the back loop of the PIPI campground. If it is full just get as close as you can. I just managed to get into campsite 41.

Bill White: New long-distance foray minister

posted Oct 17, 2010 6:25 PM by Erika Segraves

We are pleased to announce the new long-distance foray minister: Bill White.  Bill has been a integral member of FFSC for a long time, serving as CEO of the Fungus Fed for a number of years!  He has graciously stepped forward to take over from Nate and Erika after the birth of their son in May.  The Segraves will remain active as possible while trying to keep up with their two young spit-fires!

Foray!

posted May 1, 2010 8:10 AM by Erika Segraves

(from the May Duff)

The foray scouts are back with reports of plentiful morels to be found. Pack your camping gear and head to the PiPi Valley campground. A great time will be had by all. The back loop of the campground will be our base camp. Please bring your own water as we do not know yet if the campground will have water available.

A Bolete Foray is tentatively planned for May 14-16, also at PiPi. Additional news of this event will be posted to the email group.

Questions? Contact Bill White by email at ldmf@fungusfed.org.

Snowed out

posted May 1, 2010 8:08 AM by Erika Segraves

The scouts returned this week with reports of snow at 3000'.  This fresh blanket makes it difficult to find the morels and access the camping spots.

Pipi Valley dates: 4/30 (Morels) 5/14 (Boletes)

posted Apr 24, 2010 7:00 AM by Erika Segraves

The long distance foray group got back from scouting Pipi last evening. Yes, there are morels fruiting in good numbers and we found them in every location we looked.

The first Pipi foray will occur next weekend, April 30 through May 2. The back loop of the campground will be open but please bring your own water as we don't know if it will be available in the campground that weekend.

Right now a second foray will be held to focus on boletes. This will likely occur the third weekend in May, 14-16

Now to the foray on Saturday May 1. Jerry gave away the location and this puts us in an awkward position. I would ask that those coming stay out of that location until Saturday morning. There is enough places to hunt in there but if everyone goes between now and Saturday there will not be much for those that come for the foray.

Lastly, due to a new addition to our family coming the end of May, Erika and I are handing over the Long Distance Foray Leader position to Bill White. I know that he will do a great job.

Sierra Conditions related to Pipi date

posted Apr 22, 2010 7:31 AM by Erika Segraves

This Sierra mushroom season is delayed this year due to the late rains, reminiscent of the 2006 season.  That year, Pipi was the third weekend in May.  First scouting trip this weekend, will keep you posted.  Other fun updates: El Dorado just announced that native surface roads/trails will remain closed until April 30 unless conditions change. This affects mostly the logging areas between Omo ranch and North South roads.
