I didn't take many photos of the Dec. 4 Northridge hike, but here are a few.  40 hikers enjoyed the outing and about 50 came to the annual chili cook off afterwards.  Helen Callis won the cook off....congratulations!

Karla and Pam led 29 of us up, up, up House Mountain near Knoxville.  This is a great hike after the leaves have fallen and on a clear sunny day for the views.  We had good weather and a good time.

Marion Miner led 30 hikers on a beautiful day on the beautiful Twin Arches trail in the Big South Fork area.  It couldn't have been a nicer November day.  We had a relaxing lunch at the Charit Creek Lodge.  Don't forget to click on the pictures for a much larger view, and then click on "Full Screen" near the top left of the screen.

Most everyone agreed that the Lower Possum Creek Gorge hike is one of the most beautiful hikes we do (with or without the fall folliage).  There were, however, a few quiet chants of "kill the leader" during the one long uphill.  But in the end I think that we all had a great hike on a perfect day for hiking.

We had a great time in North Carolina at our fall overnight hiking trip.  Day 1 was at Hot Springs, NC hiking the trail along the beautiful Laurel River.  After a nice meal and stay in Hendersonville, we hiked in the rain the next day to some outstanding waterfalls.  Even in the rain we had a great time.  Here are some of the pictures.

On Friday September 18 George and Sarah Piland led a total of 14 brave hikers who weren't afraid of a little rain forecast.  Even though the weatherman called for showers and thundershowers all day we didn't get a drop.  There was quite a bit of excitement near the Rock Island power plant when a Marine helicopter hit and severed a couple of inch thick cables almost directly over our heads.  The helicopter struggled to a emergency landing in a cow field about a mile away and the severed cables blocked our exit from the park for about an hour.  No one was seriously injured in the helicopter but the explosion and sparks from the cable hit were pretty scary.
