What are the advantages of using Google Video?
  • Able to upload videos that can stay unlisted in searches (private)
  • Provides statistics about the amount of views, downloads of the video
  • Easily integrated with Google Sites
  • Can provide visual and kinesthetic learners with alternate ways to learn and show their knowledge (showing and making videos)
How was Google Video integrated into the South Florida Oceans & Beaches Project?
  • Students were required to film and upload a minimum of one video for their project
  • They were given the choice to film in school or at home
  • Students had to upload their videos after approval and with teacher supervision
  • Students filmed introductions to their websites, reenact labs we completed in class, experiences on field trips, or reflected on their experiences with their project

How can you integrate Google Video in your classroom?
  • You can download or show videos on the topics you are learning about in class
  • Students can film videos on a topic, upload them, and then have students comment on their videos (could be an alternate to a live presentation)
  • Digital storytelling
  • Students in the Civics class at my school work in groups to create videos on the Constitutional Amendments

How do you get started using Google Video with your students?
  • Create a Google Account (if you haven't done so already)
  • Go to http://video.google.com
  • To view videos, just search for the topic you are looking for
  • Uploading Videos
    • After you have created and loaded the video to your computer, you can upload your video
    • Select Upload Video in the upper right-hand corner
    • Browse to the location where the video is stored
    • Give your video a title and description
    • Choose the language and genre
    • Choose if you want your video public or unlisted (private)
    • Agree to the terms and select Upload Video
    • You will then be directed to the uploaded video screen
    • In order to view your video, the status has to be Live
    • To view the video, you can select the Title of the video or select View under status
    • If you select Stats, that will give you information on the number of views and downloads of your video
    • To share your video, video the video, and on the right-hand side you will see options to download, embed, email, and share with various other websites
