Words of Wisdom

If your plan is for a year, plant rice. If your plan is for a decade, plant trees. If our plan is for a lifetime, educate children. - Confucius

What is a love language?

Do you know your childs love language? Loving our children isn't always enough. Learning to speak their love language communicates your love in ways they'll understand right from the start.
Unconditional love is something all children can understand. The Five Love Languages of Children by Dr. Gary Chapman, can help you make your child feel secure, loved and more willing and open to interact with you and your family.

Five love languages for Children and the original Five love languages book will be available for you to purchase  at school during orientation if you are interested.

TREND

TREND is an organization with approximately 85 sixth grade students from the Intermediate school. TREND is an acronym for Turning Resources and Energy in New Directions.
Yesterday TREND heard a report from the officers about Red Ribbon Week training. Everyone decorated posters for Red Ribbon Week, that will display an anti-drug, anti-tobacco, anti-alcohol message. Red Ribbon Week festivities will begin Oct. 23rd with a presentation to the 6th grade by Think1st. Then each day from Oct. 26th -30th we will have a Red Ribbon Theme.
Monday - Join the Fight against Drugs. Wear Camo cloths.
Tues. Super Hero Day - Heros don't do drugs. Wear a Super Hero outfit.
Wed. - Wacky Wednesday -Wear your most Wacky outfit because Drugs are Wacky.
Thurs. Team up against Drugs - Wear your favorite Team Jersey
Fri. Red Day - Everyone wear Red.

Red Ribbon Week activities will begin in October, encouraging our students to be make healthy choices and learning about the effects tobacco and alcohol have on their bodies.

Our next TREND meeting is
November 11th Wednesday
School Cafeteria
TREND students learned that we can have fun activities that are drug and alcohol free. Last year over100 sixth grade students were on our roster we had over 80% participation at each event. It is my hope that the students continue participating in TREND activites through out middle school and high school.

Peer Pressure

Resisting peer pressure takes practice. Unfortunately, most peer pressure feels like having a spotlight shined on you in a big crowd. You need to make a decision quickly and you don't know what to do. Students who feel good about themselves are more likely to handle peer pressure successfully and say "no" to smoking, drugs, alcohol and other pressures.

Research shows that parents are still the strongest influence on adolescents big decisions. Children need to know and understand their parents expectations. It is important that parents communicate expecatations, morals, values and belief systems with their children. Peers and pop culture will probably influence your child's choice of clothing, hairstyles, music and television choices. As a parent you may not like your childs music choices, but if you let them make the relatively minor decisions, they are more likely to listen to you on the major ones.

Set a good example for your children by making choices for yourself that will have positive lifetime effects on your children.
