The Woman's Conference: 2009

The conference was so uplifting and it seems I was not the only one who felt the spiritual and loving spirits there. We have never had so many compliments and so many encouraging remarks. We had 27 new ladies. The talks were phenomenal, a couple of them would just knock your socks off. All were great but depending on the individual I suppose different one's met different needs.

Friday night was a wonderful meal with all activities centering around "Butterflies" . The metamorphosis of the butterfly in comparison with our metamorphosis of us in our Christian walk. It was very well done by, Becca Blevins and Peg Wooten and it really brought some new thoughts into my head about understanding that we are all in different stages of growth and that if we are conversing with a pupa we need to watch out if we are a cocoon. We need to accept and understand where they are in their walk. We should never judge another "they are on God's walk and need to be encouraged not told how wrong they are.

Saturday was a long day but so satisfactory. We all went to our beds relaxed and at peace with the world. Everyone was so loving and giving and willing to share experiences. During our "brown bag lunch, consisting of turkey sandwich, strawberries, chips, a dill pickle, trail mix and a very large butterfly cookie, we saw a film on the woman's shelter that we help to support. It was heartbreaking, we heard a couple of 911 calls placed by children. Being an abused woman from many years ago it tore my heart out but we raised a lot of cash and all of the dear ladies had brought a bag of goodies to go to the shelter. We still were able to enjoy our lunch because of the fellowship we were able to enjoy.

We had a delightful dinner of Prime Rib and baked potatoes with mushroom gravy and broccoli on the side. There was wonderful New York cheesecake with raspberry sauce for topping. While once again enjoying such good fellowship. I was able to catch up on the lives of so many ladies that I don't get an opportunity to talk with often. Meeting and getting to know the new ladies was just wonderful. It was like we had all known each other forever. Four of these beautiful ladies were in their teens and very early 20's. It was such fun to hear what they had to say and it gives me so much hope for the future of our beliefs and traditions.

Saturday night we were relaxed into a peaceful and relaxing sleep by Carol Boyer and Becca Blevins and a young lady who is a professional in the uses of "Oils from the Bible". The ladies served each other with salt hand scrubs, oiling each other arms and putting peppermint on each others necks to induce a restful sleep.

Sunday was a continuation of learning and sharing. We had our usual ending with everyone holding hands in a circle and each one asking for blessings for some reason or giving praises for something special. We sang "God Be with You". In tears and happiness as we left one another looking forward to another year.

Boys Home of SC

Our congregation, through the urging of one of the gentlemen who attends with us, has adopted a new project -- the "Boys Home of SC". One of the members of our congregation actually was a young boy in this boy's home and stayed there until he was 18.

It is a boy's home of 52 young men from the ages of 6 to 18. They are in the home due to all sorts of reasons: abuse, home problems, death, or possibly a single mom who cannot take care of them. Most of the home's funding comes from Medicaid sources combined with state funding, but also heavily relies on donations from caring individuals and is a "non-profit".

If you could see these fine young men who are conquering untold emotional and physical problems they would surely move your heart. If they turn out to be anything like the wonderful man who attends our church, their lives will be fulfilled.

Our congregation has been gathering and donating canned good and non-perishable foods and money to them. However, we are small and would like to do more to help this effort by helping to spread the word.

You can read about the Boy's Home on their website http://www.boyshomeofthesouth.org/ and contribute a tax deductible donation online according to your ability. If you prefer not to contribute via the internet, you can send us a check made out to "Boy's Home of SC" and we'll make sure that it goes straight to this Boy's Home, and May God bless you for helping the homeless and abandoned. Contact us for or mailing address.

Helping these young men has been a wonderful experience. God tells us to help the poor and the lonely, the widow's and the orphans. To all of the ladies of the "Christian Woman's Walk with Christ Group", who helped with this endeavor. Thank you. God wil bless you.
