FCTC Financial Aid Office

APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID HERE

1.   Gather your documentation: You will need all income information for 2008, for all household members. (If you are under 24 and unmarried – you need your parents’ income information as well.)  Forms of income documentation are: federal tax return; all W2’s and/or 1099’s; social security statement (for all household members); child support – received or paid; any bills paid on your behalf by others; current balances in your bank accounts such as checking and savings; investments; all interest income.

Print the required forms. Go to the attachments at the bottom of this page. Print either the dependent or independent forms. Please ensure they are complete before submitting. Incomplete documents will delay your application.

If you are 24 or older, you are an INDEPENDENT student.

If you are under 24 years of age, you are a DEPENDENT student. Your parents must disclose their income & provide a copy of their tax return also. The only exceptions to this are students who qualify for a dependency override based on one of the following conditions:

  • Students who are married.
  • Students who served in the military.
  • Students who were a ward of the court.
  • Students who have children that receive more than 50% of their support from you.
  • Students who fled their parents' home due to abuse or neglect.
  • Applicants should be prepared to provide documentation sufficient to justify their request for dependency override.

If you do not have a copy of your tax return, you may call 800/829-1040 or go to http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506t.pdf to print the request form.

2. Apply for aid: The first step in obtaining tuition assistance is to do your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online. (Students must do the application online. Paper applications are no longer available.) If you do not have a computer at home, you can use one at any local branch of your county library or at the Financial Aid Office.

3. Get your PIN: Go to www.pin.ed.gov to apply for a personal identification number.

4. Do your FAFSA: After receiving your PIN, go to www.fafsa.ed.gov to complete your application. The school code for FCTC is 012544. Remember to “sign” your application electronically with your PIN.

5. Check your EFC: After you finish your FAFSA, your student aid report will have your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) number. This number is basically a measurement of your financial strength and is used by the Financial Aid Office to determine your eligibility.
  • If your EFC is 4600 or less, you are eligible for the Federal Pell Grant.
  • If your EFC is 4601-8600, you may be eligible for a Florida State grant.
  • If your EFC is above 8600, you are not eligible for the grants we administer.
Once your application is complete, it will be sent to FCTC electronically within 3-5 days. You will receive your student aid report (SAR) via email, or postal mail if you did not give an email address.

6. Make an appointment: Contact the Financial Aid Office to make an appointment to review your paperwork & determine your eligibility for tuition assistance.

7. Do I have to bring anything to my appointment? When you come to financial aid, bring your driver's license, social security card, vehicle & voter's registration. A reminto finalize your tuition assistance. Please browse our forms page to see which ones you will need. Be sure to complete each form entirely & remember to submit your documentation in a timely manner!
