About Fredericksburg C.A.R.E.S.

C.A.R.E.S. was formed by a few local residents from all walks of life who wanted to provide balanced information and research to enable our City Leadership to make informed, realistic decisions impacting our environment and our community.   Being able to assist in building awareness of key issues such as recycling will help us all make the best possible decisions regarding our community.

All of us are concerned about safe drinking water, clean streets, good schools and jobs. All of us share in dealing with the rising cost of almost everything around us.   All of us generate trash that ends up in our current landfill. Many of us are also increasingly concerned about how we impact the world around us.  At current rates of growth, we have to find creative ways to REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE.

Over the past year, C.A.R.E.S. has organized and analyzed data from business and residential surveys that help create a picture of recycling habits in Fredericksburg. The group has sponsored a community Earth Day celebration and an Electronic Waste recycling drive.  Several of the members and officers have spoken to local clubs about recycling opportunities in Fredericksburg, and also made recommendations regarding policy to the City Council.

Our feedback from the local residents has been outstanding.  We have received many comments showing strong support for our role as citizen advocates, indicating that C.A.R.E.S. has provided a strong link between the city government and the community residents.  Our plans are to continue to work together to help increase awareness and opportunity and provide a template for other communities to work from.

Fredericksburg has been chosen as one of the 1000 places in the world to see before leaving this Earth behind.  The kind of example we set for other communities can have a major impact well beyond the city limits.
