Cottage Yarn and The Fibre Studio welcome you to our Fall Retreat at the beautiful Pine Needles Resort in Southern Pines, North Carolina. The event will be October 29-31, 2010 and our theme is "Pick A Noni"! Nora Bellows, acclaimed designer, teacher and creative force behind Noni Designs will be our guest for the entire weekend, sharing her expertise and wealth of knowledge.
Nora's workshop sessions are a must for anyone who has one or more unfinished knitted or felted bags in their closet, or the person who wants to take their handmade bags to the next creative design level.
You may pick one or several Noni bags to make using Noni patterns. Nora would like to encourage you to make the bag(s) that will take you out of your comfort zone, one that will take maximum advantage of the knowledge and techniques she will provide in her workshops.

Friday - After dinner, there will be an informal get together to explore the world of wet felting. You will be amazed how easily colored roving can become felted bobbles - to be used to adorn your purse or perhaps as decorative jewelry. Instructions and supplies included.
Saturday - Pick A Noni - Sessions I & II
"Embellishment" and "finishing" are the words for this day! During these two, three-hour workshops on Saturday, you will learn a variety of finishing techniques for producing a professional-quality end product. Each participant will bring a previously knitted and felted bag and will leave with an eye catching bag that will elicit the question, "Where did you find that?!"
We will review the fundamentals of felting and blocking and then move on to finishing techniques. You will learn how to structure a bag, choose and apply a variety of closures, including magnetic snaps, buttons, flaps, and zippers. We will chose and apply a variety of handle designs using different techniques including fabric or leather tabs, riveting, and hand-sewing. You will be introduced to a variety of bag/purse feet and how to apply them. We will discuss, design, and create personal embellishments to create a truly one-of-a-kind bag. These workshops will definitely increase your confidence and creativity! | Sunday - We will begin our Fair Isle and Color work Class to kick off Noni's Medallion Travel Bag or Prism Bag Knit-A-Long! If you love the look of Fair Isle knitting (sweaters, bags, mittens, all things Fair Isle) but you haven't yet started a project due to a little fear and trepidation, or if you just want the fun and camaraderie of a Knit-A-Long, join us, for this hands-on workshop with Nora Bellows. She will provide a short history of Fair Isle knitting and then offer several techniques for knitting with two colors, followed by a short lecture on finishing your Medallion Travel Bag or Prism Bag. Participants will also have time to explore different color options for the bag. In addition, Nora will demonstrate Intarsia and double-stitch techniques you can use to make your Medallion and other bags "traffic-stopping" unique.
Sunday will be a' la carte. You may join us for just the instructional part using "play" yarn or choose the Medallion Bag or Prism Bag assembled as a kit just for you! Again, you will be able to select your custom colors. For more information, click on Sunday. |
