Since we started in June, Green Wednesdays has been ticking away quietly, but has a few things to report: - We gained some great experience applying for funding (for loft insulation)
- We've insulated the loft in the Chapel and the difference is marked.
- We've started to do some small DIY improvements:
- Low energy bulbs in the main corridor and Prayer Room
- Seasonal glazing in the Primary Room
- Radiator reflector foil in the Primary Room, parts of the Main Hall and Small Hall
- Draughtproofing of windows in the Main Hall
- We've started to make some useful connections through involvement in Bristol Green Doors, Sustainable Southville and Transition BS3.
- There's a great opportunity to use our roof as the practical basis of a crowd funded community energy company
- We signed up to 10:10, committing us to reduce our carbon footprint by 10% this year. We've yet to crunch the numbers, but it should be possible.
Green Wednesdays will continue in the New Year to look at ways of greening our building and the lives of our users and community. Watch out for more DIY work to make the building more energy efficient and livable in the cold weather as well as some architect-inspired ideas about where we take the building next. We'll also be looking more at energy monitoring and control, including involving users more in the process. |
