Questions and Comments

We recognize that Christians aren't the only people interested in Christ and the Bible, and we know that God's Word and His plan of salvation can raise some questions among believers and non-believers, alike. Wherever you find yourself in life, this page is designed to give you a place to ask questions about Christianity, about Jesus, about the Bible, about whatever's on your mind.

Symbols in the Church
The Christian Church has always struggled with whether or not to use symbols - images that explain the faith without words - because of God's command not to make graven images. The historic Church however answered this by understanding that this command is about idols, about serving false gods and crafting their images. Therefore symbols used in the Church are designed to the glory of the one true God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Some of the earliest Christian symbols were the letters of the names of Jesus. IHC are the first three letters of Jesus' name in Greek (the language of the New Testament) and IC are the first and last letters of Jesus. XP are the first two letters and XC the first and last letters of Christ in Greek. INRI is the acronym for the Latin words above the cross, Jesus of Nazareth King of the Jews. Because in His death for us Jesus defeated the powers of hell, Jesus is called "the victorious one" in Greek NIKA. Jesus calls himself the Alpha and Omega in Revelation, symbolized by a and w. There are many more symbols developed by the Church, especially to help those who couldn't read the same (or any) language so that literacy wouldn't prevent people from encountering the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
