The Elements of Style by William Strunk, E.B. White, 4th ed, Allyn & Bacon, 1995. The online version isn't complete, I think. Buy it if you haven't? On Writing by Stephen King, Simon & Schuster, 2000. Much love for this book. I highly recommend it to anyone, as it's a fun read. And even if you don't like Stephen King's books, you might just like this one. Eats, Shoots & Leaves by Lynn Truss, Gotham Books, 2003. A very British book and it won't actually teach you how to punctuate properly. But it's kinda awesome. The Penguin Guide to Punctuation by R.L Trusk, Penguin Books, 1997. It's neatly organized. The New Fowler's Modern English Usage edited by R.W. Burchfield, Clarendon Press: Oxford, 1996. Alphabetized, but very useful. Lots of information. It explains differences between British and American English. If you want, you can find Fowler's The King's English at Bartleby. Chicago Manual of Style 15th ed, The University of Chicago, 2003. Pricey. If you're not a publisher or an editor, it will give you too much information. But it's an awesome book to have on hand if you want to play smart. I'd think twice before buying it, though. The Gregg Reference Manual by William A. Sabin, 10th ed, McGraw-Hill, 2005. I rather like this one. Nice, clear explanations. The American Heritage Book of English Usage, Houghton Mifflin Co., 1996. Listing this one because it's available at Bartleby. The Columbia Guide to Standard American Usage by Kenneth G. Wilson, MJF Books, 1993. Listing this one because it's available at Bartleby.
