Assignments

THE FINAL TOUR PROJECT

Create a new folder under your name titled FINAL TOUR (all your assignments for this project must be saved in this folder).  Save each assignment by its number, for example: project1.doc.

PART 1: THE AUDITION
Your mom told you to get a haircut and get a real job. Inspired by Brad Paisley, you decide that you would at least comb your hair, get off the couch, and start a band.

Project 1: Creating Your Band and getting it Approved (Word)
  • Using Microsoft Word, write a memo to Mr. Feldner explaining that you are creating a band for the Final Tour Project.  Describe your band (type of music, style, band members, instruments, etc.)  Include your name as the contact member even if you’re not the leader of the band.  Make up a name for your band to use for the entire project. The memo template can be downloaded from the attachments below.
Project 2: Design a Logo for Your Band (Paint)
  • Using Microsoft Paint, design 3 logos for your band to use during the remainder of the project.  Make sure your logos are able to switch background colors so that you can use them in a variety of ways.

PART 2: THE FREE CONCERT

Now that your band is formed and has been practicing for a few weeks, you’ve decided that a good way to promote yourself is to give a free concert in the park.

Project 3: Design a Concert Flyer (Publisher)
  • Using Microsoft Publisher, design a concert flyer advertising the event.  Be sure to include your band name, the location, date and time of the concert, mention that admission is free, use one of your new logos, and leave your name as contact person. Be creative, think about other participating bands, vendors, food, etc.
  •

PART 3: THE ALBUM

The free concert was such a success that fans are starting to ask to purchase your music.  I think its time that you use that little bit of inheritance money from your poor great aunt Martha to record your first album and create a promotional packet.

Project 4: Design a CD Jewel Case (Word)

  • Using Microsoft Word, design a CD jewel case for your first recorded album.  Your CD needs to include your band name, your CD title, at least 10 song track names, album artwork, and your logo.  Be creative and make sure text is easily read.  Remember, you need to catch the buyers attention.

Project 5: Create a Promotional Presentation (PowerPoint)

  • Using Microsoft PowerPoint, create an 8 slide promotion to get your band noticed.  Your presentation needs to include a minimum of the following slides:  title, band history, member profiles (1 slide each), album, first single, and a tour announcement (no date or locations).  Transitions and effects are important to generate lots of enthusiasm to have a successful tour.
PART 4: THE TOUR

A local independent record label was really impressed with your band’s promotional packet and first album.  They have decided to add you to their summer tour of cities throughout the southeast.  The tour will begin on July 4 and end on September 6.  You will play in 20 different cities during the tour.  Use this link for help locating your next destination. http://strategyhealth.com/Georgia_Houses/southeast.jpg

Project 6: Design a Schedule of Tour Dates (Word)

  • Create a table in Microsoft Word displaying your upcoming summer tour dates.  Your table should include a minimum of the following fields: date, city, state, venue (name of coliseum, arena, theatre, park, amphitheatre, etc.), and time.  Be sure to title your table with the name of the tour.

Project 7: Design a Concert Ticket (Word)

  • Download the concert ticket template and use Microsoft Word to edit an event ticket to one of your summer tour dates.  Be sure to include all of the information contained in the example ticket.  Change or add text to fit your needs.  You may change colors as well as font size and type.
Project 8: Design Graph of Tour Earnings (Excel)
  • Use a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel to display your earnings from the tour. Download the tour earnings template below. Type each city of your tour in the correct column.Your ticket prices should match your designed ticket and should be the same for each city.  Do not alter the number of tickets sold or the formulas that calculate earned money.  Create a column chart displaying your gross earnings from each city.  Complete the misc. revenue table and create a circle chart showing the percentage of money earned from all your sources.  Change the items to various items that you might sell (examples: t-shirts, posters, etc.)  Insert the price of each item and your sales will be calculated for you.  Do not alter the concerts earnings box.

PART 5: THE ENCORE

After the success of the summer tour, your first single off the band’s debut CD landed in the top 100 on the Billboard charts.  To celebrate and capitalize on its popularity, your record label has hired someone to direct your first and unfortunately last music video.  Too much sudden fame and money has torn the band apart and each member has gone their separate ways, ending the final tour project.

Project 9: Create a Music Video (Movie Maker)

  • Using Microsoft Movie Maker, produce a 2-3 minute music video.  You may use links from the following website to search for royalty free music, video, and pictures.  Simply save the file into your project folder and import them into movie maker.  You are not looking for music videos, you are creating one of your own.

Project 10: Create a Rockumentary (PowerPoint)

  • Using Microsoft PowerPoint, create a presentation that tells your band’s story.  A documentary about your rock band… a Rockumentary!  You will present your Rockumentary to the class beginning Monday, May 24.  Do not include any music files or video clips.  We will be saving these to a jump drive for presentations.  Use your previous projects to complete the presentation.  You are basically telling the rest of the class about your band; its logos, tour, CD, etc.  Your presentation must be a minimum of 10 slides including your opening and closing.  Be sure to add transitions and effects for entertainment value.  Your presentation must last 3-5 minutes to receive full credit.  Its content is totally up to you, but remember your grade depends on quality work not completion.  Be creative and make it look professional.
