Post event press release: What an amazing day An unforgettable memory of the Fair in the Square will be the enormous crowd of happy people of all ages dancing to the sounds of the Hornsey School for Girls Steel Band in a packed Pond Square. Meanwhile children were bouncing on the Castle, whilst others were decorating masks in the Cass Art children’s tent, watching a traditional Punch and Judy show, learning to juggle, having their faces painted, wearing exotic balloon creations, climbing into the CCTV van and fire engine and showing off their ‘mountaineering’ skills at the climbing wall.
130 stalls selling a huge array of goods and delicious food surrounded the Square and ran all along both sides of South Grove to St Michael’s Church where the Church Choir sang madrigals and visitors enjoyed a refreshing cup of tea. Over 60 stalls were taken by local charities and societies who raised funds and recruited members; a large number of Highgate traders also took part this year. “I Can Dance” – a local charity run by a Highgate mother which helps children aged 5 to 25 with physical and learning disabilities to learn to dance raised enough money on their stall to fund a professional dance teacher for a term.
