Who We Are The Forest Advisory Committee (FAC) was established in 2000 for the Woodlands Unit at NewPage Port Hawkesbury (NPPH), a pulp and paper company in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. To provide an ongoing and interactive opportunity for meaningful public participation in forest management decisions and two-way flow of information from the public to the company and back again, NPPH consulted Gesner & Associates to develop the FAC as an arms-length public advisory committee. The FAC includes representatives from a variety of public interest groups including youth, woodlot owner, contractor, small industry, tourism, recreation, Aboriginal, community development, small business, academia, government, environmental, community, and forest education. The views of these public interest groups are brought to NPPH’s Woodlands Unit through the FAC, and assist the company to identify, understand, and prioritize forest rated issues and also to directly influence the company’s forest management decisions.
