Exeter Practical Martial Arts is proud to announce that it is affiliated to the Taekwondo Schools of Excellence, run by Chief Instructor, Master Russell Perks and his dedicated core of Taekwondo instructors.

This is an exciting and challenging time for Exeter Practical Martial Arts as it joins the ranks of a highly respected and reputable organisation such as this.

MEME is a truly forward-thinking martial art and can counted as one of the few truly practical styles out there

Exeter PMA Affiliated to Jung Shin Mudo

Exeter Practical Martial Arts is pround to announce that is has now affiliated to Jung Shin Mudo, under Paul O’Leary. Jung Shin Mudo utitlises the Pyong-Ahn patterns which gives Practical Taekwondo students the perfect opportunity to grade in the Pyong-Ahn and Heian pattern applications. Exeter Practical Taekwondo black belts will not only be able to claim a black belt in Practical Taekwondo, but also a black belt in Jung Shin Mudo.

Matthew was graded by Paul O'Leary to 3rd Dan in Jung Shin Mudo in 2008, which included him having to present a 3-hour seminar to students from Taekwondo, Karate, RBPP and Kung Fu.

Exeter PMA Affiliated to Ao Denkou Kai

Exeter Practical Martial Arts is proud to announce that it is affiliated to the Ao Denkou Kai (Blue Lighting Association) under Prof. Rick Clark. Prof. Rick Clark is pressure points pioneer and has been the driving force that made pressure points accessible to everyone whilst demystifying them. Instructor Matthew Sylvester has been training in pressure points under Prof. Clark since 1995 and got his firstblack belt in Ao Denkou Jitsu in 2003.

Prof. Clark regularly comes over to the UK in order to give seminars and it is compulsory for students to attend a certain number prior to being eligible to grade in the higher belts, especially black belt

Exeter PMA Affiliated to Prevention UK

Exeter Practical Martial Arts is proud to announce that it is now affiliated to Dave Baker’s Prevention UK. This means that senior students will be eligible to grade under Master Baker’s innovative open grading system using the techniques that they have been taught in Practical Taekwondo in order to gain a black belt in the use of the Persuader. As you know, the Persuader is a core aspect of the Practical Self-Defence syllabus and this gives senior students the perfect opportunity to show their skills.

Exeter PMA Affiliated to Jim Wagner’s Reality Based Personal Protection

Exeter Practical Martial Arts is proud to announce that it is now affiliated to Black Belt Hall of Fame’s Jim Wagner’s Reality Based Personal Protection. Although some students will have come across elements of Jim’s training in their regular training, this affiliation means that Instructor Matthew Sylvester can now give courses that are recognised by Jim Wagner and RBPP instructors the world over.

Prepare yourselves, the harsh reality of RBPP is not for the faint hearted!

Exeter Practical Martial Arts is proud to annouce that Instructor Matthew Sylvester is now recognised as the Founder and Chief Instructor of Practical Taekwondo by the International Martial Arts Alliance, under UK Rep Dave Baker.

In order to gain recognition, Instructor Matthew Sylvester had to present the system in its entirety, including all theory and all physical techniques.
