ANNOUNCEMENTS:


November 16, 2009

Students received report cards today along with a letter from the Superintendent’s office and a form from DECA (see attached).  Students should bring parent teacher conferences forms to their teachers on Tuesday or  Wednesday.
 
If you are trying to reach the Sr. High Office please call 397-6898 ex 10,  6893 line is not working.

Sophomore bake sale tomorrow and cookbooks orders need to be in by Thursday.

Ski Club meeting Tuesday after school in the cafeteria.  If you plan on attending the weekend trip to Bolton Valley, you must attend Tuesday’s meeting.

Any students interested in participating and trying out for a proposed EWG Varsity Ice Hockey Team please see Mr. Butler in the main office.  We are looking for students boys or girls that are willing to give the time and commitment that an inter-scholastic team requires.  Again, if you are interested, please sign-up in the main office.

Tomorrow's football game has been moved to Sunday 12:00 noon @ Classical High School.

 

Art Honor Society Art Show Wednesday, November 18th.  Art Students bring  your art to Ms. Lind and Ms. Pichette as soon as possible.

 

Wrestling starts on Monday, November 23rd from 4pm to 6pm in the multi-purpose room.   Any student interested in joining our team is welcome.  No experience is necessary.  We are looking for wrestlers from 90 pounds to heavyweight.  See Mr. Daft for information.

 

Attention all sophomores bake sale on Tuesday, November 17th.  Cookbook money is due back by Thursday, November 19th.

 

Student Council will be holding its annual food drive until next Thursday. Brings your cans to your advisory the winning class will win a free breakfast.

 

Ramp-up sessions for any student who is missing a common task/benchmark will begin November 30th.  The cost of a ramp-up session is $25.00.  Students must sign up by Nov 23rd.   Sign up sheets are available through your advisor, the high school office or senior project office.

Parent Teacher Conference forms where mailed home last week.  Please have your child return the form on Tuesday, November 17th and Wednesday, November 18, to setup appointments with their teachers.

 

The Lady Knights took on the Sentinels of Smithfield in the finals of DIV II on Sunday. They lost 3-0 and settled for second place. The Knights had an outstanding year! Congratulations Ladies!

 

Student Council meeting after school next Tuesday in Mrs. Wilmot’s room.

 

The Math Team will practice tomorrow (Tuesday) at 1:45 in room 104.

 

Mandatory sophomore class council meeting Tuesday, November 10th.  Please make every effort to attend.  All sophomores are welcome to attend.  Remember.. keep selling the cookbooks!

 

Nation Honors Society will be holding a coat drive to help those in need this winter.  Bring your old, used, or new coats to Ms. Arvidson’s room 201 at the beginning or end of the day.  The drive ends this  Friday, November 13th, so bring in those coats!

 

Yearbook pictures for Senior Superlatives will be taken this Friday, November 13th at 2:30pm at Medeiros Studios in Coventry.  No retakes will be scheduled for this exciting photo opportunity.

Last week's EWG Boosters' Meeting has been rescheduled for this Monday, November 9th at 7:00 p.m. We will meet in room S-21 (right outside the Senior High School Gym). Looking forward to seeing you all on Monday.

Come support the girl’s in the first ever finals game in EWG soccer history.  The game is at RIC on Sunday at 2:00pm.

In a hard fought game, the Boys' Soccer team lost last night in their semi-final game to Tiverton 1-0. Congratulations to the boys on an outstanding season!

Any boys who signed up for basketball may participate in open gym beginning today from 5-7 pm.

Senior Class Council is putting on a talent show on December 4th.  To be in the show you must audition on Nov 12th or 13th.   Visit the message board by  the band room to schedule an audition time, and be sure to write the names of all participants in the space provided.  If there are any questions please see Mr. Robataille in Room S11 or talk to Noah Burcak or Marina Campbell.


November 3rd, 2009

Congratulations to the Girl’s JV Volleyball team who won the Division 2 State Championship this past Saturday at the West Warwick Civic Center.  The Knights were led by Taylor Matook who won tournament MVP.  Haley Bookbinder and Paige Johnson also received all tournament honors.  The Knights played solid all day and then played great in  the playoffs, beating previously undefeated Mr. Saint Charles in the semi-finals and then defending state champion Westerly in the finals.  Excellent job girls!

 

Congratulations to the Girl’s Varsity Soccer Team for their win last night over the undefeated Mount St. Charles.  The score was 3-2 with goals scored by Haley Kenyon and two goals by Lexi Clements.  Come support the girl’s in the first ever final game in EWG soccer history.  The game is at RIC on Sunday at 2:00pm.  Also come support the boy’s team tonight at North Smithfield.

The EWG BOOSTER CLUB MEETING Scheduled for tonight, Monday, November 2ND has been canceled. Please watch the announcements for the rescheduled date.


Model Legislature members: There will be a meeting today at 1:45 in room 216.


Any student interested in playing boy’s basketball who missed Friday’s meeting must see Mr. Main or Mr. Bednarczyk as soon as possible.  You may not try out if you are not signed up in advance. 

No Chamber Singers rehearsal today.  There will be rehersals on Wednesday. 


Girl’s soccer game tonight at Cranston Stadium at 6:00 pm.  Come support the team.

The EWG chapter of DECA is proud to announce that Rebecca Rowan was elected to the position of Vice President for the RI DECA for the 2009-2010 year, at the State Leadership Conference yesterday.  Congratulations to Rebecca and best of luck in her new position

Congratulations to the math team for their second place finish in the team round at yesterday’s math meet.  In the individual rounds, Trevor Tougas finished in 1st place for EWG, Lisa Meiklejohn 2nd place, and Chris Cicero finished in 3rd.

Woodsmen team practice today is canceled. Practice will be tomorrow Friday after school.

The girl’s soccer game vs. Lincoln has been moved down the road to the Coventry Soccer Association Field (Fish Hill).  Come support the team this afternoon at 3:30.  Bus is leaving at 2:00pm.

Reminder to Model Legislature members:  There will be a Model Legislature meeting on Monday at 1:45 in Mr. 216.

Reminder to all current National Honor Society members:  As a member of NHS you are eligible to apply for the NHS Scholarship.  This scholarship program will award over $200,000 in scholarships for 2010.  See Miss Arvidson in S201 for scholarship information.

Reminder to those juniors and seniors who have been invited to apply for membership in the NHS:  Application packets are available from Miss Arvidson in S201 and the application packets are due no later than Monday, November 9th.  See Miss Arvidson in S201 for more information.

Boy’s soccer game canceled, rescheduled to Friday at 4pm.  No practice today, practice Thur 2-4pm.

National Honor Society members there is a bake sale this Friday, October 30.
 Remember each baked good you bring gives you 1 hour for community service.
  Bring your goods to Ms. Arvidson’s room on Friday morning.

Sophomore Mini Gourmet cookbook fundraising starts today.  Orders need to be turned in by
 November 19, to insure Christmas delivery.  Cookbooks are mini and will make great stocking stuffers. 


October 27, 2009


Congratulations to the girl’s volleyball team who defeated Narragansett last night on senior night.  The team improved to 14-2.  The team was led by Seniors Jess Ferle with 3 digs and 3 aces, Seanna Poirier with 7 aces and 10 assists, and Nicole Kennedy with 3 digs.  Be sure to catch the Knights November 5th when they host a quarter final playoff match.

The junior class will be throwing a Halloween dance on Friday, October 30th.   All tickets must be bought before Wed, Oct 28th or you will not be able to attend. TICKETS ARE $7.00 AND CANNOT BE SOLD AT THE DOOR.

The 2nd Annual EWG Spooktacular is almost here! This Friday, the Fine Arts Dept. will be hosting the event, located in the vicinity of the art rooms. We will have a Street Painting Contest, judged at 5pm. Open to adult/alumni and secondary students. At 5:30pm the award winning EWG Chamber Singers will perform on the Arts Terrace. At 6:45 the incredibly artistic carved pumpkins will be judged. This contest is also open to adult/alumni and secondary students. Please consider sponsoring a street square (located at sidewalk by art rooms) or a pumpkin carver, we are having a prize for Most Academic entry- i.e., science, history,  etc. We're hoping for an artistic raven pumpkin for Mr. Robitaille. Sponsors pay $10 for the chance to have a LOVELY certificate, and a prize for the artist working for you. Multiple people can sponsor one artist. Profits will benefit the EWG chapter of the National Art Honor Society.

The first math meet is tomorrow (Wednesday) at West Warwick High School.  The bus will leave EWG at 2:00pm and return at 6:00pm.  Please see Mrs. Purtill if you have any questions.

FFA Members: a chapter meeting will be held today.  All members are asked to attend.  Please bring money from Harvest Supper Ticket Sales.

Student council members: there will be an important meeting today after school in room 217.
       
All NHS members: the monthly meeting will be taking place tomorrow in Ms. Arvidson’s room.  Those who cannot come must present to Ms. Arvidson with a note explaining why and must be given to her prior to the meeting.

Any student who is taking the PSAT on Saturday, October 17th should be at the school by 7:30 am and please bring a calculator and a number 2 pencil.

 

Juniors remember that Monday, October 19th is the last day to sell entertainment books. The books or money is due back on Monday.  Please sell all the books you can.

 

The junior class will be throwing a Halloween Dance on Friday, October 30th.  Tickets will go on sale Wed, October 21st.  All tickets must be bought before Wed, Oct 28th or you will not be able to attend.  If you plan on bringing a guest they need  permission slips into our school by the 28th or they will not be able to attend. Act now so you don’t miss out.  Guest forms need to be signed by the guest’s high school principal.

*National Honors Society will be holding tutoring sessions on Mondays after school in the library for anyone who needs it.

*Today is the day!  Last chance to join in on the fun! The DI Guitar Hero Tournament is happening at 2:00 today in S15.  Cost to participate is $4.00.  Sign up with Mr. Robitaille or you can come watch for free.

Rhode Island College - Early Enrollment Program
 
Registration for Rhode Island College - Early Enrollment Program courses is currently ongoing.  Students in the U.S. History Honors class can attain 6 college credits if they enroll for both the fall and spring semesters.  Students can also opt to take only the fall semester for 3 credits.  Students in the A.P. Calculus class can earn 4 college credits.  Cost is $50.00 per credit with a $10.00 registration fee for each enrolled semester.  Students with parents employed full time at the University of Rhode Island can obtain a tuition waiver form from the University and submit it with the registration.  Students will still need to pay the $10.00 registration fee. As mentioned in the October 5th EEP assembly, students requiring tuition assistance should see Ms. Oliveira.  Fall registrations are due by October 15th.  Spring courses will have a separate registration starting after first semester exams.

Congratulations to the girl’s soccer team on their win against Lincoln. Hayley Kenyon knocked in a header with 20 minutes left off a corner kick from Kathleen Rafanelli to score the game’s only goal and give the Knights a 1-0 win.

There will be a meeting for all students interested in joining the math team on Wednesday, Sept 30 in room 104 at 1:45pm.  If you would like to join the team but cannot make the meeting, please see Mrs. Purtill or your math teacher.

Ski and Snowboard Club meeting Wed, after school, open to all no experience needed.

 Attention all electric guitarists or electric instrumentalists if you own a looping station for your instrument that you are not using please contact Kaitlyn Breidenbach.

Attention year book staff:  All yearbook meetings are now on Fridays.

There will be a  FAN BUS for anyone interested in attending the football game at North Smithfield Friday evening.  The bus leaves at 5:00 and the game  begins at 7:00pm.  See Mr. Alves or Mrs. Neff if you plan on taking the fan bus.

Homecoming is Oct 3rd.  Tickets are on sale at all lunches for $15.00.  Please make sure you have a breathalyzer form on file and any guest singed up at the office.  Guest must also have a breathalyzer form filled out.

Come support the Lady Scarlet Knights tonight as they play Tiverton.  It will be an intense game you don’t want to miss.  JV game starts at 4 varsity at 6.

Congratulations to the Girl’s Tennis Team for their win against North Providence last night.

Any Senior or Juniors that are interested in the URI College presentation on Monday, September 28th should sign up in the Guidance Department today.

Student Council will be having a meeting after school on Tuesday the 22nd in room 217.  This is a mandatory meeting because election of offices are going to take place.  All past members and new members are welcomed!

There will be a National Honors Society bake sale on Friday the 25th.  If you plan on contributing baked goods, please bring your goods to Ms. Arvidson’s room 201.

 Congratulations to the girl’s soccer team for their win against Pilgrim 4 to 3. Goals by Hayley Kenyon, Ariana Clements, & Kathleen Rafanelli who scored 2.  Maggie Fitton played great in goal despite the tackle she took in the first half.  Everyone played awesome and pulled off an important win.

 The Accelerated Testing Dates for Summer Reading will begin on Tuesday, September 15,  before and after school through September 23 in room 204.  Before school sessions will run from 6:45 – 7:15am.  Arrive no later than 7:05 if you plan to take a test!  The afternoon sessions will run from 1:45 – 2:15pm.  Arrive no later than 2:05 if you plan on taking test .  You password is the date of your birth from year to month today.  YYYY/MM/DD.

 Chambers Singers rehearsals will begin next week.  We rehearse on Monday and Wednesday afterschool in the chorus room.  All are welcome to join.  You must sign up for an audition time this week.  Sign up sheets are on the wall outside the chorus room. Auditons will be tomorrow after school and Wednesday after school or sign up for a morning slot before 7:22.  Get the sheet music for “My Country tis of Thee” from Mr. Runner.  An easy song to sing for the audition!

Constitution Day Assembly
 
In honor of Constitution Day the senior high will be presenting a program consisting of a brief assembly and class discussion on the many responsiblities of the Chief Executive.  Part of the presentation will include viewing President Obama's speech to students on education.  The junior high will host a similar program, but it will be based in each social studies class.  Students will be given a parent notification form early next week.

School Dance tonight is canceled.

Varsity /JV boys’ soccer game canceled.  No practice – practice will be Monday 2:00-4.00pm.

 Just a reminder to all students, DECA will be hosting its first meeting of the year today after school.

Today after school there is an emergency Senior Class Council meeting in Room S15.

 EWG FFA students worked really hard this summer with events and competitions. Students came every week to our practices in the summer and it really showed at the Washington County Fair Competition as well as at the Foster Fair competitions.  Joe Harris & Dan Hinchliffe won 1st place at the cross cut sawing event Bobby Slater and Kyle Conway won 1st place in wood split as well as Men's Overall. Jesse Hoppe & Lauren Breene won 1st place in log roll Lauren Woolajohan & Brittney Ellis won 1st place in wood split, pulp throw, cross cut, as well as women's overall.

The first Academic Decathlon meeting will be held on Wednesday after school in the guidance office. We really want to encourage new members to join for an information session on what the Academic Decathlon is all about. Please join us on Wednesday, September 16th.

EWG FFA students worked really hard this summer with events and competitions. Students came every week to our practices in

 We will be entering this design at the Big E fair in Springfield Mass. Cross your fingers that we win!!

All students interested in writing or laying out the Mercury Newspaper there will be a meeting in room S15 after school today. Hope to see  you  there.

All students planning on attending the Welcome Back Dance this Friday must have a completed Breathalyer form on file.  If not forms must be signed and returned to the office by  the close of school on Friday.

Drivers Education starts September 28th, 2009 sign up at ccri.edu.

The first student council meeting of the year will be held on September 16, in Mrs. Wilmot’s room 217!  All newcomers are urged to come!

Deca will be have its first meeting of the year on Friday.  Anyone interested report to room 206 directly after school.
