Ask A Question

Susan Mahr (Agriculture)

Susan is an outreach specialist with the Master Gardeners program that helps to train volunteers for the UW Extension Program.  She won't be able to make consistent meetings but is available for specific Horticulture questions by email.

Joleen Stinson (Environmental Education)

Joleen is a part-time project assistant for the UW-Extension Rock River Basin where she works mostly on water resource projects and education.  She also works part-time for the Waunakee Park and Recreation Department.  She won't be able to make consistent meetings but is available for specific education and outreach questions.

Carl Houtman (Agriculture)

Carl is one of our original mentors, with a great deal of experience in chemical engineering, project management, agriculture, electrical work, and speaks fluent French.  He traveled with us in January and helped develop our Agriculture Demonstration project, and continues to help out as he can.

Danielle Lee (Agriculture and Pipeline)

Danielle is a recent graduate of UW Madison in Biological Systems Engineering, now working at Montgomery Associates Resource Solutions here in Madison.  She traveled with us on our January trip and helped us gather baseline soil data to justify agriculture education efforts.  Danielle also has experience with stormwater runoff.

Tom Jablonski (Pipeline)

Tom was a big help for our May 2009 trip, helping us gather initial data for our Rainwater Catchment and Pipeline teams.  He helped us plan with local technicians how to address issues in Hindiro and understand the current system.  Tom is a Professional Engineer (PE) with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency helping businesses with environmental compliance, so will only be able to help advise us by email every so often.

Mike Rupiper (Rainwater Catchment and Pipeline)

Mike is an environmental engineer (P.E.) with experience in stormwater management, and has done valuable work as a Peace Corps volunteer.

Kelly Doyle (Rainwater Catchment)

Kelly did her Masters work in North-Western Rwanda with rainwater catchment technologies, and works with Danielle here in Madison.  We are using her thesis as a primary resource this semester (posted online).  Kelly also works with the Kenya group.

Tom Siebers (Clinic Expansion and Pipeline)

Tom's working with municipal water systems currently, and has a wealth of experience in building construction, water supply systems, and even experience with water supply systems in developing countries after working on a project in Ecuador.

Rwanda-specific Resources

We have now had several trips and have many people with significant Rwandan cultural experience.  Please contact a project manager or post below any Rwanda-specific question you have that will help you better understand or design for our projects.  Members of past trip groups who are able to answer will respond on the site or by e-mail, tough questions can be collected and sent to our Rwandan contacts, and frequently asked questions will be compiled as soon as we are able.

A full listing of our contact information for residents in Muramba Parish in Rwanda can be found here.  Please request access to this document from the project manager.

Questions for Jean Paul regarding Hindiro Pipeline Assessment

posted ‎‎Oct 28, 2009 1:12 PM‎‎ by eschauer@wisc.edu

1.  Ask Alonze if he knows the exact pressure rating of the pipe (it says 16psi PVC pipe) which is really weak leading us to think something was lost in translation or unit conversion error, please confirm if he knows.
2.  Are there benchmark elevation markers for surveying anywhere around the area of the pipeline that Innocent or Alonze know of?  Will help with surveying and GPS in country.
3.  Confirm the amount of people served by pipeline, we know for the school the peak-5000people, but may be additional 1-2 thousand people?
4.  Ask Alonze to provide costs of other pipe materials and what materials are available other than the PVC we believe is in use.
5.  Are they still looking into hooking up other spring sources to the current pipeline?

Let me know if these are bad questions or if they will not be able to be answered until the trip.

Thanks,

Erick
